Gaudi's cathedral will be completed quicker than our one stand at this rate.

Gaudi’s cathedral and Camp Nou. A beautiful building and a beautiful game. I only Selhurst could match either. Ah well we can but dream ....Zzzz

There are arguements both ways . If (and it is a big if) a brown field site could be found then planning would be off set gainst the potential of converting Selhurst Park into a site for Housing in a Similar way to Brentfords new ground with Griffin Park now destined for housing.

This would make getting planning permission slightly easier as no house would need demolishing and tenants moved.

However there would still be infra structure projects such as transport links, parking , traffic and noise issues that would be linked and certainly prove part of the planning approval

Don't forget that the actual pitch area of SP is under covenant and cannot be built on, which would probably severely curtail any interest from developers.

Whether or not we flirt with the Crystal Palace Athletics Ground or some brownfield site somewhere, I come back to the point that seems so easy to overlook: We already own some land in a prime location. To make things even better, it has pubs, shops and stations nearby, plus (and this is the best bit) a football ground already built on it plus planning permission to build a huge new stand. Sounds great eh?!

As I said in an earlier post, I am a little surprised it has taken this long to get the recent legal agreement signed but if you think this is taking a while to get done, imagine how long it would take to get a new ground built somewhere if we start from scratch.

Also, don't be too keen to under-appreciate what we have even if we never redevelop Selhurst. Personally I like the old place more every time someone else builds a soulless plastic out-of-town bowl.

Wanna go non league just to get your hands on Croydon's piece of crap stadium?

We only need the land and build from scratch and if viable they can ground share and pay us low rent .

remember being at Ashburton seniors, early 70s.
we had an open air swimming pool.
'Raise the Roof' sponsored walks/runs/fetes/weasel killing , you name it, to raise funds to put a roof on the s***e outdoor pool.
this was still going on even into the late 80s when siblings were there.
the roof never happened but the teachers went on some great school ski-winter holidays.

it'll never happen, just a new burger outlet, 5 guys hopefully.

I walked around Crystal Palace park today the National Sports Stadium is falling to pieces and isn't used. It would be the perfect site for us but as we have previously discussed it's never going to happen which is such a pity.

One more point

It is listed, Park is Green Space, in London Borough of Bromley and residents concerns.Plus Bromley London Borough Council (Crystal Palace) Act 1990, which limits development on the site. All make planning more difficult and expensive to obtain. Unlike a Brown field in Croydon and new homes on Selhurst Park which the council will see as a gain

Thankyou for that explanation.Allways seems a great waste to me.

Would've been the best option,We should've made the resident an offer they couldn't refuse

Such a shame as returning to our rightful home would've been the perfect story!

Probably get shot down but . . . why not buy the Croydon FC site and build on that while helping Croydon FC convert the (former) national athletics stadium.
the locals wouldn't be as against it and we would have a ground in Croydon more easily accessible also Selhurst would convert into one hell of a lot of housing stock.

Enjoying getting up later and not having someone who knows better than me (apart from the missus of course).

If things don’t change, we won’t even need a stadium. We could raise millions building flats where the stands are which people could watch the game from

The way Croydon Council are absolutely destroying the centre of town, we could probably buy the Whitgift Centre site for a tenner soon and build it there. I mean there’s no shops there, all the dept stores have gone - with House of Fraser just being posh Sports Direct - so it might put at least a bit of life back into the place.
