Ideal scenario :-

Benitez goes to Everton
Favre comes to Palace

Then afterwards :-
Potter goes to Spurs, leaving Brighton right in mire

As panic, Brighton then appoint Steve Cooper.

All goes south for Brighton, and not just their location.

Not all rosy regarding new stadium

A lot of people seem to have little idea what's going on at Everton. Right now, they are NOT an appealing prospect for a potential manager.

Moshiri's personal millions are irrelevant. Ever heard of financial fair play? Right now, Everton are bang on the brink of violating it. That's one of the reasons Ancelloti left with undue haste...they've got no money to spend, at least without selling first (which is also why Ancelloti has put in a cheeky bid to take Calvert-Lewin to Real. He knows better than anyone that Everton need to offload before they can buy). Their finances are also a reason why Moshiri made no real attempt to keep Ancelloti (did you notice?) when Real came in. Getting his astronomical wages of the books was a necessity, again to free up cash and reduce the fair play situation.

In many ways Ancelloti's tenure was a disaster. He spent a fortune and earned a fortune and delivered...a tenth placed finish, no Europe, no trophies, all in all little better than Palace and he's left Everton financially right up against it. Trust me, right now Palace is just as appealing a destination as Merseyside. Don't kid yourself that at least summer, while the club's finances are sorted out, that Everton is an immediately attractive destination. As we found out with Nuno, the same demands that we didn't want to meet they were no more able or willing to meet themselves.

Favre will surely be keeping his house down at the continent (Switzerland or Germany). The distance both by car and plane is far shorter from there to Croydon than to Manchester/Liverpool. These might be major considerations a 63 yo man is putting on the weight.

Do like this and do see it as the ideal. I'll reiterate I don't think we will or can appoint until after Everton have and it is a little amusing if it turns out after both playing the field both Howe and Santos are left standing on their own at the end of the last dance at the disco.

See my post about the situation at Everton immediately above.

For all that their fans like to pretend that Everton is a big club, they aren't. And for all that fans like to pretend that money is the only thing that's attractive about a job, it's not. The Benitez/Everton marriage is probably driven by a). Benitez is about the only thing vaguely resembling a big name that Everton could attract right now. This time around, Ancelotti-status candidates aren't even being mentioned. b). Benitez is unemployed, so he'll come relatively cheap (no compensation involved, etc.). And Everton DON'T have money to burn because of their awful Financial Fair Play situation. c). Benitez is approaching the end of his career and he lives in Liverpool. His family is there. So a reasonable offer may well suit all parties for personal as well as football reasons. Let's face it, would Moshiri really even be talking to a former Liverpool manager (and who'd openly taken the piss out of Everton in the past at that) if he wasn't somewhat desperate? Short of mass protests from the fans at Goodison, it's hard not to see Benitez at Everton.

That being the case, I'm really not worried about Everton being a competitor for Favre. If he's Parrish's choice and we don't get him, I doubt the reason will be he's going to Everton (unless he's a closet Beatles fan who yearns to live in Liverpool). My guess is that we've already made or will soon make Favre an offer. If he accepts it, job done.

Spurs are a mess. Kane wants to go (and probably will) and they're clearly in transition. Although on a less desperate scale than ours, not entirely unlike Palace. Spurs is essentially a rebuild job. Like Everton, no top names seem to be mooted as in the running. If they want Potter, they'll probably get him but the fact that a Brighton manager with no history of real success is what they can attract speaks volumes about the state of Spurs right now. Plus, you have to wonder how many (if any) top bosses would want to work for Levy. Personally, I think Klinsmann is a dark horse for the job.

The loser in this game of musical chairs is Nuno who priced himself out of the Palace job assuming Everton had more money and he'd walk in there, failing entirely to do his due diligence and understand Everton's presently poor financial situation. Result: he didn't get that job either. And presently, Spurs don't seem interested in him, arguably for similar reasons.

I see no reason Favre shouldn't come to Palace if he wants to. I can also see Nuno backing down and coming to Parrish cap in hand, willing to renegotiate which, if nothing else, would give us a choice. In short, Everton's financial issues plus Spurs rebuild and unattractive chairman probably make us a fairly appealing job for a manager right now. Credit to Parish for trying to get the right manager, rather than the first manager to come along.

I really don't know what your issues are but you don't seem happy. Your posting over the last year tells the story.

5 posts in 10 months, the first telling Mick he is on drugs, the second wanting to take Palace to court, the third telling Dazza he is a moron and the fourth and fifth having a dig at me about nothing in particular other than a harmless quip about you wanting Dazzas nickname on here. There is a pattern to your posting, perhaps you should be embarrassed?

Anyway, back to the subject matter which is our new manager. Do you have anything to add on this subject or do you just want to have another dig at me?

In short Syd, I respectfully disagree. Even with all of the issues you have sted above, even if true reality is Everton are a better prospect than us atm.

Everton with Moshiri's millions likely to be spent on recruitment, a new £500 Mill stadium been approved or CPFC with several players out of contract, a rickety old stadium and still no agreement with Sainsbury's on that "Sliver" of carpark land, not forgetting that an upgrade to the ground is a new stand and not a complete stadium renovation or a rebuild.

Everton of course might have other candidates they favour above Favre.

The expectation at Everton is far higher than at Palace, I doubt they would go with no Premier experience, if they are looking to break into the top 6.

Good post Syd, I have always thought there is something fundamentally wrong with the way Everton is run. They have spent a fortune on players and managers in the last 10 years without success. At least we know with Tottenham that any issues along with any plaudits fall at the door of Levy whereas with Everton it is difficult to tell why they have maintained mediocrity.

I think Nuno has rather fallen on his sword but I'm not sure if his negotiating behaviour is agent led or of his own making. I too thought we may see him back at the negotiating table with us although Parish does have history with people who mess him around so if he feels like he has been played then there is no chance Parish will take him on.

I see no reason for Favre not to join us and looking at his background I think he is the right manager for us.

The issues at Everton are real. In my first post, there is plenty of proof of that. Besides, their problems are now becoming fairly public.

Of course, you have every right to disagree and Everton's financial issues are also short-term. By cutting costs this year and getting their Financial Fair Play house in order, they will return to a position where they can take advantage of Moshiri's personal millions again in the future. But for the next year or two, until they've cleaned up the mess of recent years, their hands are very much tied.

Despite that, I respect your view that Everton may to some still be a more attractive destination than Palace. But that would be a long-term view. It is not true to say that money makes them a more attractive job RIGHT NOW. It doesn't. That's a plain and simple fact.

For a manager attracted to a 5-year plan, Everton probably is the better job. For an older manager who wants to make an impact in the next two years, we offer just as much as they do in my opinion.
