I hear you but you're missing the point by taking a small amount of text and dismissing about him being unsettled and losing value over a season. The 25% is our own error in negotiations with Man Utd and no ones else's problem. I get we want more to cover the 25% deduction, but it likely won't work that way in the end. Parish signed the paperwork knowing this day would come. Your Hazard comment isn't really relevant in regards to the elite level of the clubs doing the deal and him playing European & international football for nearly a decade at the highest level. I don't want him to go, he is our best ever player and the driving force behind our sides success over the last 5-6 seasons. We need him. What if Parish says to Zaha 'No, you're not off unless we get £80M' Zaha turns around and says 'Okay, well I'm going on strike for the rest of the season until we accept a bid from Arsenal' What do we do? We have an asset worth £80M, agreed, but no clubs are interested at that price and he sits out a season decreasing in value. Arsenal will give us £50M now and whatever add ons you like. IT'S A MYTHICAL FINANCIAL SCENARIO We don't know Zaha or what he's thinking of doing. Blimey ! Yeah right - he has an employment contract like you and I - if he goes on strike he doesn't get paid and his career goes down the preverbial toilet it's as simple as that..!! But it ain't going to happen..!! Look this is just Arsenal - who clearly want Wilf but can't afford him and the media "whipping up" a non story - Wilf's brother ain't helping and clearly has no grasp on the commerciality of these things. Scenario is Wilf is 1 year into a very lucrative 5 year contract, Palace don't need/want to sell. On this basis Wilf is an asset to the Club - so SP is quite right to value that asset in line with market price and trends which puts him at £100M+ So Arsenal either put up or shut up - the latter will be the case. For me this is just agents, family and media unsettling Wilf - when simply the commercialities as we understand are just a non starter and way off the mark..!! So Steve please come out and say something like "We've sold AWB, because it was right for the club, but we have no intention of selling Wilf as we are looking to the future - in any event the reported offer was derisory in the current market". Losing both is suicide, but I didn't think this situation would pop up with Wilf wanting out and the statement etc. Different ball game potentially. We still don't know exactly what Wilf wants and we probably never will know the ins and outs, but it's known he's an Arsenal fan and wants European football. Just saying if he forces a move, lets try and take the maximum we can from our biggest ever asset. If he doesn't force it, then he can stay and pick up a healthy wage each week and keep on doing his thing. To not recognise football for the business that it is these days, is short sighted IMO, that's all. To not recognise that Wilf is worth a lot more than 55m is short-sighted is my point. Every player has their price, I just believe that what you stated was way, way below his value to us. Given the fuss Palace made to get money up front for AWB suggests that not only will Arsenal need to significantly increase their offer but that it will have to be mostly up front. I was worried he might go to Arsenal until they made their offer. If it really was 40m spread over 5 years then they clearly are short on cash. Also, it seems their fans and former players all think their defence is the priority, so this whole thing seems a bit odd? I'm beginning to think it will be like with Spuds a few years back when they made a lowball offer, Parish said don't be silly and that was the end of it (even though Pardew at the time said Wilf did ask about the possibility of moving and was told no)

But football isn't the real world. It's a fantasy world where a small minority of people earn an absolute fortune paid directly or indirectly by comparatively poor people who take a whole year to earn an average footballer's weekly wage

Yes if offered we could have paid a couple of million more with no sell on, but the key is “were we offered” it. It would have been short sighted for United to take a couple of million to not have the 25% sell on clause. It was probably a condition not an afterthought. That said it is our issue, but then for the buying club 4 years remaining on a contract is theirs.

£45,000 over 6 years perhaps They bid 40 million so that when they bid 60 million it will seem like a lot. I would tell Arsenal to find 110 million to offset the sell on clause, or better still, tell them to get lost altogether. If he really wanted off, he should not have signed that contract.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Zaha wants out' by Midlands Eagle If Arsenal match our price (whatever it currently is) then we may well sell but until they do its just an outrageous attempt to unsettle our best player. I don't think Wilf will be stupid or disloyal enough to go on strike but I suspect he will feel a bit aggrieved that AWB got his dream move (well he thinks he did but thats another post) when he didn't. Who knows how much Wilf really wants to join Arsenal anyway. Steve has to play hardball now and mean it - in my opinion it would be bad business to lose both AWB and Wilf in the same window and would almost certainly have an impact on the commercials of any deal the club is trying to do with regards to a sale. But if (and its a massive if) Arsenal match the price I think we may have to sell. Wilf might understand us blocking a move where we are not getting full market price for him - he may find it hard to accept us blocking a move if the full price is offered. Personally I would love it if he stayed but right now who knows.
Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that. |

Then let him. His career will go down the pan like Berahino. We must not sell Zaha to Arsenal. They have insulted us and attempted to unsettle our player. Did Arnoutovic leave Spam? No. We must be resolute. Looks like Arnoutovic is now though. See a pattern? Press talk = bumper pay increase. You crack on though passing opinion as gospel. When are you selling your season tickets in disgust? Asking for a friend.
