I'm filled with pride..... imagine one of them getting the winner that brings the trophy back! Good times at Selhurst Park. All they need to do that is ignore GS's instructions.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

I think you're referring to the Grealish of a year or two ago. These days he rarely takes on a player and 9 times out of 10 his pass is backwards. 100% agree. I think although a big name, on performance alone it was easy to drop him (and Madders). When Grealish gets the ball, you instantly get excited, but he seams unable to take a man on. I'd be surprised if he attempted 1 take on the other night. So when you are thinking about a squad an impact players, if Foden isnt working, are you going to bring on Grealish (who now plays like a bad Foden) or Eze that will tactically offer something different.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

One thing I hope the Grealish situation shows is that City is not the place for mavericks like Eze to go if they want to thrive and enjoy their football. I thought GS would still take Grealish as there's a lot of new faces in the squad, but Eze earned his place on merit, as did Gordon. I do also wonder if Grealish is perhaps a bit of a Jack the lad and that possibly doesn't play well with Southgate? Just imagine if it's Palace players who play a big role in finally winning a major tournament for England again.

Grealish is an upmarket version of Ayew. He wins free kicks and can slow the game down, he dribbles but unfortunately his end product is nowhere need as good as it should be. Too many blind alleys. If someone like Pep can't train him to release the ball at the right time then I think he is too old to change. The guy who has replaced him in the City team is like a Duracell bunny he runs down the wing an delivers a cross. He may not be as skilful as Grealish but I bet Haaland prefers playing with him. The level of interest and fulsome praise for Palace from my bowls mates has never been so high. It’s really genuine. People are loving watching us play exciting football with players who seem happy and at ease with each other. We have a lot of new armchair fans who will be rooting for our boys at the Euros. There has always been more Palace supporters than those of any other club at my bowls club, all the big 6 included, but now we also have more players selected for England too. Bragging rights feel good!
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Edited by Badger11 (07 Jun 2024 9.19am) I think that's really harsh - at Villa he was a goalscorer and a creator, if anything Pep has coached that out of him in favour or ball retention and making 'safer' decisions with the ball. 10 goals, 8 assists in 19/20 season He came on and immediately made a goal the other night. He's clearly had a bad season, and I really hope he gets out of City and goes somewhere he's allowed to express himself again - I think he's one of the most exciting players in the country when he's given the freedom to show it - I actually think his playing style is far closer to Eze than it is to Ayew. I think he can feel pretty hard done by - Gordon and Bowen are good players but I would certainly much rather have Grealish as an option to change a game.

This is exactly why a super creative player would think twice about City under Pep. Its all about the system and not the individual. Objectively its hard to argue against it, but its so exciting watching a tricky wide man in full flight. More than any other club I can think of, our history is littered with exciting winger partnership's, long may it continue

It may be the 'best' way to play from an efficiency point of view, but it's not great to watch, and I'd apply to City as a whole - despite their huge success in recent years, I don't think this squad leaves much of a cultural legacy beyond being an expensive assembly of robotic output machines.
