It's an interesting observation. Its true, but he also just isn't mobile enough to be doing what he was doing. He tried a very similar thing about 2 mins previous and almost gave the ball away. I know his partner and screen isn't there, but his level has really dropped this season. He should be the leader in this team, but isnt.

Andersen is a 6'5" Danish CB so on paper should be an absolute warrior at the back. Unfortunately, he looks more like a CM who wasn't quite good enough and therefore was moved back on account of his height/size. He has a great long ball game, and is decent on the ball, however looks to have a melancholy and resentment from playing at the back. If he were to fully accept and master his role as a CB, he would not be at Palace. Given he is weak in the air despite his size, will never produce a 'heart on sleeve, blood and guts' performance and lacks the natural instinct of a CB, he will need somebody more professional in that position beside him. I fear Chris Richards is not this person however Marc is. On Spuds, yes it's infuriating however he has long looked vulnerable to such things and one instance should be forgivable. I hope it sparks a bit of desire in him to atone with better performances here on in.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I understand the anger when the final whistle went, but this perspective is important. Few games buck the trend this late in the season (Chelsea being the only anomaly). Spurs have much more than us, and so were more likely to win. OG still needs time to settle, and we need the Olise-Eze team to be really effective, but it is a resource led outcome in the EPL. Anger? I didn’t see any anger from our fans in the ground, the players came over at the end and everyone still left in the ground applauded them. Disappointment yes, but certainly not anger. You couldn’t fault the players commitment that’s for sure, which the lack of would usually spark a bit of anger.

Andersen isn't, and probably doesn't see himself as, an old style '' stopper ''. He's more of a ball playing defender as opposed to Richards whose main strength is his physical presence. On Saturday, Andersen needlessly lost the ball by overplaying. I can only imagine what would have been said if Neil Warnock was his manager ! He's not exactly on a good run of form at the moment, and I think CT Charlie is correct in that he's missing the calm assurance of Guehi alongside him.

Saturday should have shown Glasner everything we already know about the team/squad. We work hard, but are not great in possession when we play against a team who press and are incapable of holding onto the ball for extended periods to take the pressure off. We don't create much other than moments of magic from one of our better players. We struggle against high balls into the box, and Ward showed us again how he is always vulnerable at the back post. Fitness does seem to be an issue too - not just at Palace, but generally. Wharton has only just arrived but looks knackered after 65 to 70 mins in every game. Maybe when you are constantly chasing the ball you fitness and concentration can't sustain 90 minutes.

I always remember Warnick getting rid of Leon Cort, who was a decent championship defender for us, and he weighed in with quite a few goals. But Warnock wanted to know as a central defender where all his scars were, he was far too good looking, he only wanted warriors at the heart of his defence

Sorry Willo, he only has 4 cautions so far this season, Lerma has 7, Ayew has 6, Mitchell 5, Andersen & Ward have 4 with Edouard & Hughes on 3. Here is the EPL stats . . . [Link]
