Aarons followed up with: "Olise understood to be recovering well from hamstring injury and is happy to stay at Palace this season if interest from Chelsea and Manchester City doesn't result in an official bid"
I am not a bot. No, seriously, I'm not. |

I know all clubs do this but I hate it. It's like saying to a girl would you like to come out with me I'm not actually asking you out but if the girl I really want isn't available....

You may well be correct, and perhaps I’m a naive idealist, but I’d prefer that we didn’t sign players with release clauses. Originally posted by Putitout

Unfortunately, you don't get players like Olise UNLESS you agree to a release clause. I suspect there are few youngsters who have the level of self-belief he has and who can make that kind of demand. Haaland, of course, did it when he signed for Dortmund.

I recognise that, and that’s precisely why I would prefer not to have those clauses even at the expense of not signing these players. Originally posted by doombear

In Spain they have the most ridiculous release clauses. Latest one being a 1 billion euro release clause for a 16/17 year old German lad. I think they can work in your favour sometimes. If you set them at a sweet point. £35m wasn’t really enough, not after we had already sold a right back for £50m. If you set them at a sweet spot for Palace, where they would be happy to sell at, then it can force the hands of a buying club to match that valuation.

Spain is slightly different in that release clauses are compulsory. It kind of defeats the purpose when they set it at a billion but they do it since Neymar's was paid when it was thought to be unreachable.

We are just about to find out what release clause he has. For me the club has to dig deep. Better to have a hacked off Olise than no Olise. Worrying times
