The breath of fresh air was actually Connor, he had a phenomenal season, if Roy had had a Gallagher we would have played better football and finished higher in the league.
If anyone says Roy wouldn't have played him , yes he would have because he always grafted.
Without Gallagher Patrick is playing his way Without any players to make it work and no effective game plan.

To be brutally honesty I have been disappointed with Doucoure.
Allegedly, he was a player that Vieira really wanted at the club.

There was a breath of fresh air when Vieira was appointed and we played much more progressive football than we did during the era of Mr Hodgson.

Sadly we now smell the stench of stale air as the team has alarmingly gone into 'Reverse gear' with damaging statistics and performances which leave a great deal to be desired.

We are in decline and the manager is annoying me by his apparent 'satisfaction' and 'we were well organised' comments, etc.

He is either an idiot or very naive and it is worrying that he seems to have zero motivation skills.

When someone (Derry) speaks out he gets the boot. Also worrying is he seems to be following the trend at all his previous clubs - a promising start and then a slow (and terminal) decline.

On the bright (!) side we have got 3 more points than predicted from our games v. United, Newcastle and Brighton so we must be thankful for that .....

I believe on HOL I asserted that whilst it is possible that we could attain a top 10 finish, perhaps in a solitary season, my view was that for the foreseeable future the best we could attain is perhaps 12th which of course is where we are at the present time.

What is currently alarming is the 'Direction of travel'.Only 1 win in our last 9 PL games and that was at lowly Bournemouth.Only 6 points from these games and only 5 goals scored.Running stats the lowest in the PL and some abject performances.

It is only a matter of time before we are overtaken by some of the teams below us.Southampton have just sacked Jones, so perhaps they will benefit from a new manager 'Bounce'.

A stat that was banded around during the game is that Doucoure has the most interceptions in the premier league: and for playing in that CDM role, that is exactly what he is there for.

Above Declan Rice, Hojberg, and Gueye all playing the same position.

Yeah I’m not sure where the criticism of Doucoure comes from?

I still think he’s one of our more solid players in there and if anything there’s so little in front of him and Hughes when we play it can be easy to see why the CMs might be the two most frustrated players on the pitch.

I just couldn’t see where any inspiration, game plan for getting in on goal or threat was coming from when we moved it forward yesterday.

Schlupp becomes almost completely ineffective when starting a match but is useful as an impact sub, I’ve got a lot of love for Ayew but he seems to play his own match all the time, Olise is not a CAM needs players around him and to be isolated against full backs so he can perform with a bit of independence and I’ve long stood up for him but JPM looked absolutely awful.

Playing as we do with so many individualistic players who I’m assuming are supposed to be interchanging in positions just pans out as an ineffective unit with no cohesion or rhythm, hence the inability to create let alone finish from open play.

Whatever PV is trying to do is not working however he seems incapable of changing things.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Did not Newcastle just scrape a draw at lowly Bournemouth? Funny how a point earned against a team above us is a cause for concern but we only beat those below us because they are "lowly".

Arsenal, West Ham and Brighton denied victories by VAR.

The West Ham one stands out, where the spam defender tipped a goal-bound ball expertly round the post.

However somehow that was 'not handball'!

To my mind the Brighton scorer was not offside but their player in front of him to the left was, when the ball was last kicked.

But it's all become totally bonkers.

Scrap VAR completely and change handball to be deliberate and offside to be a player completely in front of the last defender when the ball last kicked.

Just a thought.

I watched through the game again and the positive is that we were no worse than recent performances - crap, but no worse. Obviously, Guaita had a good game. Mitchell was terrible. Midfield non existent, a couple of presses but no accuracy or thought or movement in attack.
Overall kind of a four out of ten, lucky that Brighton were only a five at best.

At about 89” they had the ball out wide and played a cross in that only just sailed over heads and went out for a GK. I turned to my brother and said “We’re lucky there’s been so many of them today”. They looked leagues apart from us in controlling the match, their passing and football, they just looked very weak in front of goal and for that I am extremely grateful.

Agreed things don't look right in the camp. However, couple of things to remind folk of:

Last season we looked just as terrible when either Anderson or Guehi were not playing. Stated on here often and by many that the system did not work unless we had two ball playing centrebacks.

We've known for years that the team cannot score when Wilf is not playing and lets's be honest for most of this season even when fit Wilf has not played.

Last season's midfield that was so successful has completely gone, not just one player but all of it. It is no wonder an under pressure defence look fragile and an unsupported attack look totally ineffective.

Let's hope things improve when Anderson and Wilf are back and our new midfielders have been integrated and are starting games. The only bit of good news from all this is that we are having our poor(very) spell during a run of games where we were expecting to lose most of them anyway.

The "Cause for concern" goes beyond attaining a point against a team above us in the table.

The fact remains that we beat Bournemouth, a team below is in the table, who had lost 2 of their previous 3 Home games and 1 was against struggling Southampton.

So you've passed judgement based upon what exactly ?

PV said that he thought we would benefit from some experience in midfield. The club presented him with two players that have very little and none.

They are not playing are they, PV said he wanted both the players.
