These are all very valid points, our recruiting has been poor for sometime now, we do not seem to be able to get transfers over the line and lose out to our competitors Gibbs-White is one example but there have been many others and to be fair to PV he has made it clear what he wanted last T/W but only really got Doucoure so I guess DF has to stand up and be counted as we are weak at getting good value talent unlike the clubs mentioned.

Really?
There is no way we would have contemplated offering the kind of hyperinflationary deal that Forest gave Wolves. One thing Gibbs-White wasn't was 'good value talent'.

As for getting good value talent, you presumably don't see Eze, Olise, Guehi and Andersen in that category, given your comment re DF etc. I suspect that a good number of supporters would agree with me that they do represent good value in today's PL market pool.

I've voiced my concerns before. While itx great we're picking up great young talent in the transfer market, we also need to pick up the odd experienced campaigner. What we really need at the moment is a hard as nails, experienced, leader in our midfield.
That is not decore, schlupp or eze....

Agree there.

The likes of which you have mentioned would add a sense of 'balance' and 'marshalling' to the midfield.

As it stands we have lots of players with very good individual talents however we are lacking the cohesion and stability necessary for the midfield to be effective. I feel like there are often conflicts with some of these players between doing 'what they do best' and fulfilling requirements of the role, leading them to do neither effectively.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Obviously our midfield is the major issue. Our best combo last year was probably Gallagher, McArthur and Kouyate. They only started six times together but we lost just one of the games and had victories over Man City and Spurs, I believe
None of them are now, effectively, with the club

On a bright note, if we win handsomely tomorrow we will be top half.

You can sometimes win games even though 2 or 3 players aren't quite ' at it '. On Saturday, there were a few more than that. And while Leicester have more talent than their position suggests, we should have had enough to make life more difficult for them. Ultimately, I respect the point but not the performance.

In terms of squad strength, I think it's generally accepted we are light on numbers. I don't see us spending big in the next window, but hopefully the midfield issue will be addressed. Decoure will turn out to be an excellent signing, but he needs specialist help in there, not square pegs in round holes.

Andersen, Guehi and Olise poor recruiting?

Let us look at the statistics for Saturday

Guehi, 1 tackle, passing Accuracy was good 92.8% 0ut of 69 passes and 1 shot that missed.

Eze, 2 shots none on target, key passes 2 tackles 1 passing accuracy 79.6% out of 42.

Doucoure 1 shot not on target 34 passes accuracy 79.4% tackles 1.

Olise 65 minutes 0 shots, 8 touches, 3 passes 100% accuracy and 0 tackles.,

Schlupp, 0 shots, 22 passes 95.5% accuracy 0 tackles.

its seems the one thing CP did not like doing on Saturday was tackling and shooting, no wonder Leicester was so strong the midfield was open for them with no pressing by our midfield when they had. The same in defence if your TWO key Player make no tackles (Andersen made zero as well) the you see when our problems are!

Just to be clear, Olise played 25 minutes, not 65.

Gallagher papered over big cracks last year, we miss Kouyate and McArthur, agree we need a Milner type in the middle, Doucoure hasn't adjusted yet, he was a minder to a playmaker for Lens, he needs a partner alongside, not sure it's Hughes, think we need to find a stop gap solution in Jan - the performance v Leicester is concerning, disjointed and poor off the ball esp in the final third.

You have based the outcome of our recruitment policy on one game.
Andersen, Guehi and Olise have all been called up to represent their country based on performance for Palace.

Absolutely. Anyone who argues that Guehi, Andersen, Eze or Olise weren't great bits of business are mental in my opinion. Eze and Olise in particular could prove to be absolute steals.

On another note, what happened to that Leeds fella up front?

All valid points & I would add to that Brendan Rodgers is an intelligent manager, he has had the opportunity to face Palace on a fair few processions both home & away giving him the chance to set his stall out accordingly - no doubt we went into the game with a plan, the opposition will also have their plan, in this instance its quite possible that each plan cancelled out the other one -

I asked a question up the thread: why we were so crap? I will chuck in a theory.

- Leicester better that their league place (bet we don't stuff Forest 4 - 0)
- Condensed fixture list (e.g. we are playing tomorrow night). Need to preserve energy and avoid unnecessary cards and injuries.
- With a relatively light squad in terms of quality.
- And asking attack minded flair players to play conservatively

Obviously, that does not excuse the inexplicable drop in quality of passing; but it might excuse the squad rotation, substitutes and dull, defensive performance. One or two better passes and we could have achieved the objective and have taken all 3 points against the run of play.
