I thought this piece from Anfield Index gives a balanced view of both the red card and Andersen's role in it.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Andersen went down as any other player would (and is often necessary to draw attention to a red card offence as the useless officials would inevitably miss it), having just been headbutted - would be more accurate for me.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Anderson isn't really known as a hard man, a wind up or the type of player that tries to get anyone sent off. Has he ever done it before? Can you even think of a time where an oppo has squared up to him? Wilf maybe, but if anything our 2 CB are pretty placid.

The clips from the game look like any other defender/forward in any other game. A few little pushes to stop Darwin pinning him. He's not pinching him, or stepping on his toes or doing anything antagonistic. Just defending in a contact sport.

How on earth is JA expecting a headbut after a finger wag and a little push. He was pissed off with Darwin trying to headbud him in the previous phase, so reacted and went to have a word. I highly doubt he was expecting another head but.

In the final analysis, Nunez disgracefully assaulted Andersen, yet the narrative appears to be focussing on our central defender with mention of "Sly fouls" and all that hogwash.Deflection away from the perpertrator of the violence.

Indeed Andersen paid Nunez close attention but as has been mentioned there was no punching, violent pushes and shoves,stepping on toes etc etc.Andersen let Nunez know he was in close proximity and this is what one would want from a central defender against a renowned striker.

When Puncheon trashed De Bruyne, I don't remember many of us blaming him. Andersen's not hurt at all, just a storm in a teacup. Frankly, the last thing we need is Liverpool counting us as rivals. I find going under the radar a much better way to nick points
