The objective of course was to be in the hat for the next round and this was achieved but the performance against a Championship team left a great deal to be desired.

Anyone not knowing the teams would have difficulty in knowing which was the PL team.
A far from convincing display,no fluidity going forward, did not move the ball fast enough particularly in the 1st half and played a number of sideways and backwards passes.
The defending once again was abject on occasions and the goal we conceded was very poor with the goalscorer left in acres of space.

Through to the next round but a disappointing performance.

A good summary. The slow pace in the 1st half is a regular occurrence, yet PV often mentions it. Why can he not sort this out???

Why can’t Wilf take on and beat a championship full back ? Imagine Sterling running at them as Olise did last night. He used to beat them twice a couple of years ago,he seems to have lost his tricks as well as some pace.

Yes, bang on.

I was wondering if Wilf was even on the pitch in the first half. Everything was coming down the Rh side. We desperately needed to get the Lh side going. The young lad was nervous about getting forward and we really missed Tyrick on the left. No doubt about that.

That, I'm thinking is Why Schluppy was brought on.

It can’t be easy as a young kid to play behind Wilf especially when he’s in his unhappy place. He got forward pretty well as the game progressed but didn’t always get the ball back when he did. A more experienced player would have been shouting for it and possibly complaining more so I felt the substitution was more about experience than attacking ability.

Although on Saturday we started well but tailed off badly in the 2nd half after the sloppy OG.

I tend to agree as Tayo was improving as the game went on. It may have been more a case of Wilf not really turning up and that made the young lad's job more difficult.

I liked what I saw of the young lad and if he continues to improve, we'll have the LB position sorted without having to go into the market, so can focus on getting a new RB (and at least one more CB.)

This is the point I think it was hard for Tayo Adaramola (his name, not "the young lad"
Wilf hid all of that first half from him, by going inside to hide behind their defender. There were multiple occasions Tayo went on a run looked up and absolutely nothing was on for him going forward. (OR Wilf was trying to fight someone AGAIN).

Thought he had a very good game personally, and looked like he grew into it after 10-15 minutes.

Definately came off for an experience aspect not performance.

Despite the performance and the weather there are 2 big positives:

We are in the next round

Adaramola didn't look out of place. Just a shame he isn't a right back!

there's always going to be the odd example to the contrary, but the lack of 1st half goals (and my own eyes!!) support the statement that in general under PV we start games slowly and don't move the ball quick enough. The fact PV has also mentioned this a few times is my point - he can see it, we can see it, but it's still happening too frequently

I was under the impression that LB was already sorted, with Mitchell. Not so? Just asking.

It's a question of proper cover for if/when Mitchell is injured. A number of people on this site have argued that we need a second LB. My own personal view is that in Schlupp and Riedewald we have adequate cover for all but a serious long term injury. IMO, the development of Adamarola should put the whole debate to bed.

Agree with this, Tayo has come on leaps & bounds & i would imagine PV will use him sparingly in the 1st team & let Paddy Mac continue to use him in the U23's & nuture his development more. The other LB we all thought would make it, Reece Hannam, has only just returned to action, so i dont think he will overtake Tayo in the 'pecking' order for a long while yet.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.
