Fascinated by Putin's comprehensive address to his people.

You get a totally different perspective of the whole thing.

Why don't you do us all a favour and go and live there, after all, you hate this country.

An interesting read that makes a lot of good points on this conflict.

Turns out I was a little over 24 hours late with my prediction.

Russian troops have entered the Donestk & Luhansk regions of Ukraine, literally any retaliation from the Ukraine will result in a full scale invasion

I Expect Dnipro to declare independence shortly.

Genuinely interested to see what would the Russo-philes on here would say if there were some Nato-Russian conflab somewhere..?

You may love his autocratic nationalist stance, and his apparent strength and defiance, but he is not our friend. And that is not some Western media fed tosh.

Even Hitler had a respect, fondness even, for the British. This man does not.

He must have been well assured that NATO would do nothing, the Russian military is not exactly the Red Army these days and would not be equipped to take on the entire West.

He calls the British, 'little brother', in regards to the Americans.

I would say your summary is accurate, though I wouldn't call myself a Russo-phile personally.

Russia is part of the European family and some sort of agreement over Eastern Europe/Russian influence situation should have been reached a long time ago....violence should be off the table.

This is a conflict that shouldn't be happening and a failure of diplomacy since the Berlin wall came down and Putin's ascent to power.

My loyalty is ultimately to the British people and by extension to its state....though I am a fierce critic of its elites' choices and betrayals.

Nah, I get the feeling all the lefties on here are champagne socialists. The idea is more appetising than the reality.

Yeah, champagne socialists or Blairites are the worst.....Anything left wing until it makes an impact on their bank accounts.

Not Steely though, who seems to be more of as a western system rejectionist...Lefty anarchist I suppose.

Silver and Danns are sensible representations.

Rattled west.

Sanctions are only self-harming, Russia has a stable economy despite them and is self-sufficient with vast reserves of energy and food production.

The bad old days of shortages and poor distribution are a memory.

Sanctions are like bombing, they unite people against you.

Increased prices for europe's hard-pressed citizens are likely to be the main effect.

If you want someone to be your friend, you won't get it by imposing sanctions on them, will you.

Or disrespecting them and blatantly provoking them.

I take it you don't want to be our friends then?

I will be surprised if Putin doesn't pull out completely after seeing the UK sanctions package.
