not sure it's mathematically impossible, as those teams still have more opportunities to get 3 points than we do - Until these numbers even out a little the table looks false..

yip. Spot on. And whilst we are not yet mathematically safe. We are picking up points and moving in the right direction. Brentford Leeds and Everton are the ones who need to be worried. All dropping like stones. And Burley have a winnable fixture tomorrow night, that could see Everton drop into the bottom 3. My Leicester-supporting friend is completely pessimistic about his side's chances ie he expects a defeat.

I can see us getting zero points in March so the table after the away game at Newcastle will have far more reality to it as games in hand catch up. Edited by The Dolphin (28 Feb 2022 6.04pm)

I think the other factor about game's in hand is that the teams who are not geared up for Europe often struggle playing 3 games a week and they will have performance drop offs. I actually am happy we are up to date with our fixtures and will generally have a week to prepare for the next game. If this happens to be against a team who have had to squeeze in a mid week game then it will only increase our chances of getting a result.

4 teams below us can and may catch us. Below that no chance. Bottom 3 vanishingly remote. The fat lady has sung. Close thread.

I am not sure why but I still find myself looking down the table rather than up. Maybe it is force of habit. However, we had an fantastic first half today and kept them at bay in the second. I reckon there are undoubtedly 3-6 teams worse than us this season. Time to start looking up the table and dreaming of another trip to Wembley!

Guess we can put this thread to bed. Despite a lot of bed wetting we were never in any serious danger of going down. The blip we suffered in December and January was been of an injury to Jimmy Mac and key players missing due to AFCON.
