Eze has never offered anything defensively. People have short memories, clearly! I'm not knocking him - he's a real talent and we know what he's capable of. Glimpes of that yesterday.

He needs to be in the middle though, and Schlupp needs to be out wide. Schlupp moved wide and was immediately involved in a goal having been absent all game.

The key changes were Luka on for Eze and Mateta on for Edouard. We suddenly looked okay. Then, PV not learning from his mistakes, took Olise off for Benteke and killed any outlet we had going forwards. JPM was looking good up top and was then essentially moved to right midfield give how deep we were playing.

For Liverpool, we HAVE to start with Luka in DM - again, as soon as he came on, Hughes and Gallagher got further up the pitch than they had all game. He's not the long term answer, and it's CK's spot when he's back. Or even Macca's.

Schlupp goes out to the left or Edouard starts there.

Whilst I've been a big critic of his, JPM deserves a start too up top. If we need to bring Benteke on to shore things up, it's a straight swap for JPM.

Seems obvious to me, but maybe I'm missing something??

That’s my view as well. Agree entirely with your third paragraph. Benteke for Olise screwed us as we were balanced and looking like the most likely to win.

well ive just got up after going to bed at 1, took that long for my heart to slow down , ok we didnt play well and our 2 best passing periods we scored one and missed out on a 2nd , sorry for olise my fault i backed him to score thats twice now and both games he didnt play well .

Ward had his 50 pence head on didnt know were the headers was going , but tobe fair to him the first one he had now were to head it safly it was a looping ball so hard to get power behind it but overall he done well.

Butland well what can you say , ive been in his corner for sometime because i think he his a better all round keeper twice he come off his line and punched clear with meaning , Guita would still be rooted to the ground , and you could see the CB looked more comfortable with a keeper who plays his part in crosses.

Eze didnt look comfortable but he his just coming back so i give him time .

we needed there thorn in there side Wilf , he is not having a good season but he comes alive in these matchs.

but happy with the draw No never am against them , not sure but when did brighton last score the first goal .

In the bigger picture the point was a good one for us , now watch us out play Liverpool hehe

To be fair ,Olise was knackered. He had worked hard and Brighton put him through the wringer at times, he was beginning to hobble a bit. If we had a like for like, PV might have used it.

I like that! Lol. Back in the day, my mates and I used to say Terry Fenwick had his "cornflake packet head" on.

The starting line up had insufficient balance in terms of physicality / strength and the subs then left us with no legs or outlet at the end.

I've not liked PV's use of subs in the last couple of games and absolutely hate the fact that we're unable to see games out. Not forgetting VG got us off the hook after dominating Everton.

On the plus side the central defenders and Butland who've had a bit of criticism, some justified, were all excellent and Gallagher's touch and finish were sublime.

A lot has been said about Zaha making us a one man team but I'm wondering where we'd be without Conor.

Ward most definitely didn’t do well, as well as their goal, very lucky that Butland spared his blushes in the first half when he gifted Veltman with his weak header.

Against Millwall also he was error prone.

A goal up away from home with just a few minutes left...to concede then is really disappointing, forget about what happened in the previous 87 minutes.

Overall I thought the performance illustrated the difference between the 2 clubs. As I've said before, Brighton are 3 years into a journey that we have just embarked upon in terms of style of play.

In turn that means they feel less of an impact when key players are missing. We certainly missed our absentees more than they did theirs.

On the night, Butland not only redeemed himself from the Millwall blunder with the penalty save, but also made some other vital stops - a good night for him. Eze - never looked comfortable. He may be physically fit but his sharpness isn't up to scratch - I would have hooked him at half time actually. Ward - apart from a key part in the build up to our goal, had a night to forget. His constant conceding possession put us under pressure and of course could have cost us a goal.

Ultimately I'm pleased with a point. I don't think we were lucky to get it as such, but performance wise we are a lot better than what we showed last night.

Man of the match has to be the flare thrower-unless it was a gift from the sky, without that interuption, we would probably have been 1-0 down and ended up losing!

We should also be thanking the VAR people for falling asleep . Clear encroachment on the penalty by 3 or 4 of our players though not by Mitchell who cleared the ball . (Does that make any difference these days ?)

Interesting 🧐 to see Will Hughes get a booking for a poor tackle, which last weekend was Millwalls main ploy, and which never got punished. Last nights referee was the best I have seen this season by a country mile….

I just despair over the VAR because there will be no consistency. We have seen SO many similar fouls, at corners and free kicks, not given and we will continue to see this inconsistency. I’m not saying the foul by Hughes wasn’t a penalty but there will be plenty more (and far more blatant) fouls not given by VAR over the remainder of the season. Consistency is key and it will be TOTALLY lacking.

No. Any encroachment by a defender is a re-take. Unless a goal has already been scored, of course.
