Ballance thought it was ‘banter’ and Rafiq didn’t. That’s what matters, not the intent. That makes it very difficult to establish a level of acceptability. Beyond the obvious how are you expected to know what offends another person? If a comedian performs to 500 people and one takes offence should he be censured?

You say it was a racist slur, and while I don't support this kind of language according to Ballance this was while they were friends with insults traded both ways. Also Ballance says he was invited to his wedding after this. You don't seem to care about any other narrative.

Why are you focusing on that part alone and glibly dismissing the rest? Also ‘you say it was a racist slur’. It is a commonly accepted racial slur and has been for decades. It’s not me saying it is. You should be more careful about the language you use. It gives a lot a way about without you realising.

I feel like I’m repeating myself and exhausted saying it but have you seen his testimony today? It went far beyond that.

I've heard stuff said between friends that can only be considered insults out of context. While I don't support it I know that it would be dishonest...if for example I later framed those situations as 'insults' as it literally is bad taste banter. No I haven't watched the testimony. It's one side of the story so how do I know it's true? I haven't read anymore on it from the summary I read a few days back. While I have no doubt that I wouldn't support some of what goes on in dressing rooms or in pubs.....and in my twenties I use to run my old man's pub so I have some idea....that doesn't mean that I would support destroying people's livings over high jinks. In my circle of mates, we take the piss out of each other all the time. I consider it a sign of effection. However, I wouldn’t dream of speaking to a stranger in the same way.. From what I’m reading it sounds the same as what Ballance was doing to his mate, Rafiq. Context is everything here. The fact Ballance was invited to his wedding after this happened and him returning to the club doesn’t stack up for me. I grew up playing in all kinds of sports teams and there’s always someone who is the butt of the jokes (often me), and different characters/groups in the changing rooms. It’s just seems like normal behaviour. The stuff which goes on at university initiations is far worse than what Rafiq is describing, but people are getting lynched for non events from 10 years ago. This Rafiq story is been headline news for about 2 weeks. The world has gone totally bonkers!

There's a lot in the evidence being heard at the committee. Ballance comes out very badly. Also senior people at Yorkshire.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

I thought it was disgusting Martin Moxen shouting at Azeem Rafiq the day arfter Azeem had to deal with he's still born son. Hang your head in shame not just Yorkshire county cricket but English cricket in general.

Oh and the money, always follow the money. I've no doubt there will be some handed over and I've no doubt it will all be donated to charity, publicly. Severe TIC.
