I can't address the 'you didn't say this when..' style approach, without talking about the contradictions involved in taking it. You're hardly 'giving him time' with regard to the Biden Presidency, much like people didn't with Trump. Difference being that you believe you do so as a reaction to others lowly behaviour and hypocrisy rather than it also being your own. A 'they made me do it, or they did it first' outlook. Of course we can all claim that or emulate the pickings from the trash can of our political opposites, but it may not serve us well. Centralists hold a decent amount of sway. Swings voters and moderates tip many an election. They may not always get precisely what they like, but they help to draw parties towards certain aspects of popular appeal. In polarised times the opposites (who ironically have a lot in common in their mindset) bounce off one another and crave for others to joint their tribe. If someone highlights instances of foolishness and policies across the board its at least an honest approach, even if they aren't getting invited to any parties! Edited by BlueJay (23 Jan 2021 2.49pm) The 'trash cans' commentary being the literal leaders of the Democrats themselves just repeated by their followers. I can't say I find your defence of your positions convincing. Still lets not go around the houses. Lets see how wise your preferred pick over Trump ends up being. Edited by Stirlingsays (23 Jan 2021 3.25pm) There hasn't been a position that I've needed to defend so I can't help you there. I struggle to say I prefer Biden over anyone, but didn't have the highest opinion of Trump so we will see. I'm not sure that society is designed to operate at full throttle for such a period of time, so Grandpa Joe sleeping rather than tweeting through a Presidency may have a certain balance to it.

Really, perhaps you should have looked at the 25 executive orders Biden signed in his first two days....The record before that was 8....so personally I don't follow with this, 'we just don't know' take. You seem to think things are going to settle down under Biden whereas I view things as being very different with much more radicalism on both sides.....but then again, we represent very difference world views as to what works holistically with the human condition. Aside from this not really having anything to do with US politics, I think this is very concerning isn't it? Oh, Ni Hao! Doesn't concern me at all. Why should it? So long as it's properly managed to ensure that there is nothing untoward then there is no reason not to allow the Chinese to compete. If we want to sell them things then we must expect to allow them to at least try to sell them to us. That's the way world trade works in 2021. The Philippines is destined to come into the Chinese sphere of influence. The USA abrogated it's role there after the Vietnam war.

The Chinese have been buying there way into many countries, for many years. I have witnessed it in pakistan and the Caribbean. They are not doing it for the good of anyone but themselves.

How odd. During the campaign: "We're eight months into this pandemic, and Donald Trump still doesn't have a plan to get this virus under control. I do." (15/10/20) So was his plan to do nothing to change the tracjectory of the virus then? Would have been nice if any of the press provided some scrutiny of this "plan" during the election. Your understanding of this, and the usual "jump on the bandwagon" contributions that follow yours, is really absurd. Biden and his team have a plan. It's been talked about for months and isn't so different to what we and other countries have been doing. Social distancing, mask-wearing, testing, isolating the infected and close contacts and, of course, vaccinate as fast as humanly possible. It has been scrutinised, discussed and supported by the media. Just ignored by Trump. That's not the point of Biden making his remark is it? He is warning people that there are no instant answers primarily because these things weren't done early enough. That the trajectory cannot be altered for some months is a direct consequence of the LACK of action and not because they are now doing the right things. It seems that some people are determined to knife Biden in his first week and to claim justification because they feel that Trump was given the same treatment. It's complete nonsense. If that's the level of debate we are going to witness here now this will quickly become a very uninspiring and tedious place. Trump deserved all he got and more. He did nothing other than lie constantly. Biden is being open and honest. He won't always succeed, especially when people try to obstruct him, but what he will do will genuinely be for the good of the country and all its people.
