We happily stood for over 100yrs but now we are told to sit. The law very often changes as a result of incidents where people lose their lives. For example the law on fire safety of tower blocks, building regulation and the way fire services react to fires are all likely to change as a result of grenfell tower. The fact that an incident has taken place alone is a suggestion that current safeguards were not adequate. Once a decision has been taken to change law after these sorts of reviews it would take a lot of will and much evidence why original review was wrong to change it back. A change to safety at sports grounds law is very unlikely to happen quickly and would involve a number of trials for an extended number of years.

I pay hard earned cash every season for a ticket which provides me with a seat.

If the issue is where they were located and wanting to move behind the goal, most hard core supporters, including me, want that spot. Those that have it shouldn't be forced to move. As far as atmosphere go i wouldn't underestimate the average Palace supporter. We know our reputation is for non-stop noise, banners and flag waving plus balloons. Even here in the US, our supporters outsing the locals with regularity when Palace tour here. at the Philly match, their singers, The Sons of Ben, actually gave up trying to outdo us and watched us do our thing with utter amazement. We're not HF but we certainly held up their traditions without a drum. Being the eternal wide eyed optimist that I am (until my depression sets in), I see this for the rank and file Palace supporter to show what we can do without an organised "singer" group on hand.

I really wish there could be more consideration between fans. We re all supporting the same team, part of the same family. However it really upsets me to see fans having a go at others because they feel everyone should stand. I've had a few `minor` run ins with people who seem o be part of the HF at away games (the only ones I can feasibly go to). I can understand they want to stand and I can even respect that. However, I often go to matches with my father, ow over 70 he has supported Palace loyally since the 1950's. He is not disabled and doesn't want to be treated as such. But, he is unable to stand for 90 minutes plus anymore. We buy tickets for seats and are forced to stand on occasion because people around want to stand. We have asked people to sit so he can see the game, and in fairness sometimes people do.

I used to go to a few away games, but I cannot stand for extended periods due to lower back problems (now coupled with advancing years!), so I was forced to stop going. If those who want to stand did so at the back it would certainly lessen the problem, but they don't and they therefore impose their wishes on everyone else. As someone on this thread has already pointed out, with the exception of a whole stand having 'safe standing' (which is unlikely and doesn't seem to be the case where this has been installed) the standing areas will be at the rear of blocks. I do wonder if the standing lobby will be quite as excited about it when that sinks in.

There's a reason why professional singers all stand and sing rather than sit down. There plenty of other areas in the ground for sitting. There is not much for standing. As for dressing in black, why do you care? Are you a fashionista? Look around the ground, most fans dress in black as it is a colour that matches with anything. I would prefer that some of the grown men start wearing a slimming black rather than replica shirts as no one wants to see their obese guts.
I'm tough. I'm ambitious. I know exactly what I want. If that makes me a bitch, I'm OK with that. |

As I understand it there are no actual areas for standing - people just stand in areas that are meant for sitting in.
