Call me Mr Old Fashioned, but how is it possible to reconcile these two accounts that are supposedly 20 minutes apart? The video appears to show that no one was being allowed through the away turnstiles, which confirms the reports on the night of 300 Palace ticket holders not getting in. I remember reading about all the problems with heavy handed stewards at Charlton away. I walked in without a delay or particularly aggressive stewarding, which was the complete opposite of what most people found. I suppose you just have to be lucky.
It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses. |

So the charging of the gate and the decision to close the turnstiles all happened after the game had kicked off? Well Paul came by taxi so wasn't with us hundreds who had been frogmarched on a tour of the backstreets and got there late. The game had kicked off as we walked across the bridge out of falmer. So even a few minutes he would have been in and missed it. The photo I posted after my experience of the night was the scene which met us. So the smoke bombs and things which looked like sparklers / fireworks on the floor may have been the immediate aftermath of those who stormed in

I think that's right. Yes. You must have been on my train . Zig zagging round multiple metal railings at Brighton station and standing about for ages before we could go anywhere. Those who caused all this mayhem must have been on that train with all of us. As we came over the bridge there was a huge surge of kids in hoods with faces covered shoving and going mental to barge through the crowd. Just thought it was impatience to get in for the start of the game at the time

Friends of mine who already made it inside had no clue what was taking place outside. None of them could believe it

Just thought it was impatience to get in for the start of the game at the time I think you've pretty much explained the whole thing, but if these idiots were on the same train as yourself, they'd have done the same thing, even if you'd arrived earlier, so the outcome would have probably been the same, with likely even more people locked out.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

This is how it should have been for everyone and probably was for most. They (brighton) panicked when the 20 or so Palace got in, presumably without tickets (although there is no actual evidence of this) and then threw a strop and took it out on the couple of hundred Palace fans still to get in. Unfortunately I believe that it was Big Barry (from the Players Lounge) who ended up in hospital Noooo...thats dreadful,we were having a good chat before we went in....sounds like it all kicked off 10/15 mins after we went in.

This was just disgraceful but what actually is the point of turning up without a ticket? They buy a train ticket to brighton and travel all that way when it's pretty likely that they won't get in, even if they do storm the gates. Why go through all that and just waste that money?

Just reading NSC and it seems that Willo is actually correct. It is just the fault of the Palace fans (all of them, not a tiny minority) and brighton are not at fault at all. I stand corrected.
