Most people with access to education believed the world to be a sphere. Sailors certainly didn't believe it to be flat, and nor did astronomers. Of course some people believed it to be flat but the scientific consensus for a very long time before science was even more than just rudimentary observations, believed the world to not be flat.

The Nazca lines were probably made by people, at great effort and expense, for religious or cultural reasons that were very important to them. This guy always strikes me as being legit...even if what he says is way out of modern comprehension.. I've seen him interviewed a few times and always comes across as lucid and straight..

That's a lot more impressive than scraping some lines in the ground. It would take us decades with earth moving equipment and explosives. If people of the past were capable of such feats then it casts serious doubt on our interpretation of history. It doesn't need to involve aliens to make this a big story.
