Thing is if he is one of Al's targets and the board fail to bring him in at 6 Million, then I'm afraid that says an awful lot. I think it worth remembering that Leicester have just shelled out 9.7 Million Euro's on a very decent striker who was courting interestfrom Juve and Chelsea. Meanwhile we are haggling over 6 million for a championship player. That to me speaks Volumes as to where we are in terms of competiting with other clubs in the bottom half of the table. Unfortunately, Leicester better infrastructure than us which will generate them more revenue. The king power is 20% bigger than Selhurst, add to that the fact that that new stadiums generate money 7 days a week, revenues from extra events such as 3 rugby World Cup fixtures, big investments from Thai owners and commercially they are probably a bigger brand than us. It's going to continue to be very difficult for us to compete due to our financial limitations for a long time to come so the board are going to have to continue to be shrewd and very disciplined with all the dealings to keep the club on a secure footing. We are still currently 12th in the premiership. That's a pretty good job so far.

Pardew reveals no progress made over Crystal Palace's pursuit of Rudy Gestede: "I think we have enquired for about three to five players whether their available and that’s where we’re at and the chairman is pursuing some lines of enquiry in the right manner."

Never worth £6 million in my opinion. Cam Jam has scored as many goals as him this season in the Championship and is Gestede really getting any of the plaudits, unlike Mcarthur who was regularly getting rave reviews on the radio ? Although he fits the mold for the team surely there are other strikers say in Europe for a lot less who also possibly fit ? A new striker will always be a gamble as we can't afford/none available a proven PL one but I feel the wider market of Europe would be a better bet than the Championship.

What's a bottle of water worth? Depends on the context. Rudy is tall and strong in the air and has good feet. With Sanago the attack could look pretty awesome. So the 6m figure is based on perceived value by both parties. But if we don't get him all is not lost, so we can test their patience, wait till final hour of window, offer them 4m?, take it or leave it. My guess is they'll take what they hope to get in the summer window.

It's pretty clear that Gestede is a back up option if we don't get Gonis or Babacar. If we don't get those 2 perhaps we'll up our bid but I suspect Pardew is pretty content with the strikers we have based on current form. With Gayle in the goals and Murray playing well, plus Sonogo,, its clear that £6m is too much for a 12 goal championship striker when we've got enough in the squad to stay up. Better to use the Gestede money on a top class striker in the summer if we can't get him much cheaper than Blackburn are quoting.

The fact is 6 Million is about the going rate, and not a lot for a half decent striker in the premiership, in fact all things considered for a striker who scored 12 goals in the championship half way through a season ,I'd go as far as to say in the current market it's reasonable, if we can afford that then stop dicking around and get him in, before we lose out AGAIN. I know it's prudent to be frugal, however if he scores the goals that keep us up, 6 million is a pittance. I wish some people would stop being so small minded.

The transfer window is a mixture of poker and Arthur Daley with all the cards being held by the seller and as the 2nd Feb comes ever closer so do the stakes and the ability to know when to appear dis-interested and when to come to the negotiation table (they normally come together as a pair at the right time). The important thing is to know when to show your hand and strike at the RIGHT PRICE and in SP and his board we have this strength irrespective of whether you feel they are a bunch of tight a***s or not! Let Mr Bruce pay well over the odds and a the same time look at his purchasing history ....it isn't good! For every decent player in the shop window there are probably a dozen clubs interested and the forwards having the greatest attraction for obvious reasons. This is by no means straightforward and the board will do what they believe is in the best interests of CPFC. As with most things Crystal Palace deals will go to the wire.
