Many well known people express their opinions on Twitter. People can read, or ignore. That's their choice. It would be a restriction of free speech if only the unknown could express themselves. You can ignore Lineker, just as you can ignore anyone on Twitter or here. So basically virtue signalling. ‘Look at what I’m saying’, rather than entering into a debate directly with the person involved in making the decisions that Lineker disagrees with. I’m pretty sure that somebody with a high profile like his could get an audience with the Government to put his case. But it’s all about ‘likes’ with the narcissistic.
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

Outside of players taking the knee before the game, how much politics does MOTD really show? I don't actually agree with what Lineker said, it was an extreme comparison, however, I agree with his right to say it, as a freelancer on an app/website that is for people's thoughts and opinion. It goes without saying that the tweets or individuals don't represent the companies they work for, especially on a freelance basis. I'm sure all in this thread have argued for freedom of speech here. Regarding the viewership of the past weekend's MOTD, I'm sure that's down more to intrigue than anything. If I wasn't otherwise engaged on Saturday night, I would have watched 5 mins or so of it to see how they did it.

I wonder how many people thought of Lineker as a freelancer before this all kicked off as I certainly didn't. Lineker's claim to fame is that he is the highest paid BBC presenter yet it seems that he is now claiming not to be an employee but a contractor. Obviously I haven't seen his contract but I'm guessing that he is contractually obliged to present Match of the Day otherwise he would just send someone else from his production company to do it therefore that puts him firmly in the category of employee
