No Ranieri please! When he started tinkering with the Leicester team & formation this season (established by Shakespeare and that lunatic Pearson) after winning the PL, the club was heading straight back to Championship.

Still hoping for a U-turn by S. Allardyche, telling Steve Parish he is fed up with golf and crying grandkids. Welcome back, Sam!

If you think Parish is guilty of a lack of rigour in what he is doing at the moment then I think you will be gravely mistaken. Why does it take us so long though? Almost everything that one wants to know is already in the public domain. The records of all of the possibilities are well known as are the personalities of those employed currently or previously in the Premiership with dues diligence consisting of discreet enquiries to find out what the potential manager is like behind closed doors and an interview so that Parish can see for himself whether he feels that he can get on with the bloke. If the eventual appointment is one that seems to have been on the radar for a while one has to wonder why it has taken so long.

Other clubs seem to focus in on a potential appointment, based on the mass of information already available, sound him out and interview him and, if it's someone they can work with, offer him a contract. Drawing up these massive shortlists is fine, but we don't need to interview half a dozen; we should already have a good idea of who we want, based on who's history best fits our criteria. If the best fit candidate checks out at interview, bloody appoint them. Based on previous managerial recruitment exercises, we seem to find someone we like, but can't resist putting him on hold, whilst we interview half a dozen others. Would we like it if we offered the job to someone, who then said, I'll take a raincheck on that whilst I see if anything better comes up? We seem to be treating the process like you would if you we're recruiting from a bunch of strangers, based just on their application form, when in reality pretty much everything about a candidate professionally is already known.

Presumably it was as much a surprise to him as to everyone else. It seems highly likely a new appointment will be made next week. So we will have a new manager in place well before the start of the transfer season, and preseason training. Parish has had the luxury of having a bit more time to make the crucial choice of who he thinks can take Palace to the next level, and he has taken the time he needed

We need to get someone appointed soon - probably at worst within the next ten days or so. Edited by The Dolphin (11 Jun 2017 8.06am)

I wouldn't grumble at any of the supposed last 4 candidates, but my preference would be - Pellegrino Edited by Stuart Shave (11 Jun 2017 8.17am)

If that takes time then so be it. Unbelievable that after all this time and not putting a foot wrong, that people still doubt Parish, his intentions and and whether or not he is competent in doing a satisfactory job. Just extraordinary.

Then there are negotiations on top of initial interviews and chats. Maybe the person he wants is employed still and he is trying to get permission to speak to them. There are many different reasons as to why this isn't just straight forward and succinct process. And I for one am glad that he is taking his time to find the right man.
