Yeah he played well. Doesn’t mean that I have to eat humble pie and that I’m wrong in saying that we need better. That's fair of you. Strangely I agree with you. Ideally I'd like us to get 3 new keepers but that's a bit unrealistic. Perhaps one until the end of the season as a first choice and then bring in another in the Summer?

Well according to our interlocutor keeping the first clean sheet anyone's kept against Citeh this season is evidence of nothing so presumably the same rules apply to everyone else. Anyway I'm talking about McCarthy when he played for us, not McCarthy today. And that isn't the point, really. I thought it was in the site rules that you don't come in here and slag off people who've turned out for Palace week in week out, kept their place in the side and gone through spells of poor form and come out the other side fighting. McCarthty should have been given more of a chance to prove himself at Palace when you look at the time afforded to others. Was treated very unfairly and it will come back to bite us on the arse. And we’ll deserve it.

Actually two good games in a row as his last game was at the Amex, also a clean sheet! Let's not forget his superb, brilliant if not phenomenal display against Chelski last season. That's another feather in his cap. The grilling he gets off a certain poster is an obsessive disgrace. Such passionate bile should be met with either a yellow card or intense counselling.

Ps having seen Wayne at Ashton Gate I don't necessarily disagree with you, although for what we paid he has been good value for the money. Now time to splash for top half quality.

I’m no WH fan but what I saw yesterday was a marked improvement in his positional play - I can’t think of a single situation where he wasn’t exactly where he needed to be & that made what he did look comfortable. What was really noticeable at free kicks was the fact that he’s stopped taking a step sideways as the taker runs up leaving a corner exposed. Looked like he’d have handled anything that got over/round the wall. In the warm up he was practicing those long kicks into the channels that were so effective in the game itself. Maybe, just maybe Roy & his coaches have found a way to get the best out of him.
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

I appreciate that I am in a minority (perhaps of one!) - I am actually happy with our keepers. I think the rotation of Speroni and Hennessey has improved both of them - and I like Henry as our back-up. I am not convinced that a new keeper (that we could attract) in January would result in any benefit. In recent games both keepers have performed well - in conjunction with improved defensive structure. I think there is a risk that bringing in a new keeper would unsettle the team..

Bringing in a new keeper who commands his box and is a real presence can bring much needed confidence to the defence. I thought Wayne played well. His distribution was excellent yesterday too.

Anyway WH had an excellent game and wouldn't surprise me if he's back in for a bit and it's deserved, until his next f*** up and now that both keepers know this is how it works hopefully their games will keep improving. And hopefully too by the end of Jan Benteke will be in the same situation.
