Nah,that was the Tory, Neville Chamberlain with Adolf...

Chamberlain was sincere but foolish. Corbyn fits that mold.

I agree that mortgages and rents are the biggest problem we face. They are far too expensive. Increasing income tax now would be crippling for some.

If you earn over £80k you're not likely to be struggling. And it's only an extra 5% on income above £80k. So not the whole lot. If you're on £80k or less you would not pay any more.

That really depends on your commitments. It won't be the same for everyone. Spending money on frivolity is one thing but mortgages, loans, kids etc is stuff you can't just off load.

Tax is a balancing act. I don't know what you earn but remaining disposable income is not a vast amount for the majority of people even when the earn 50 to 100k a year.
We need to be careful not to make pursuing a good career worthless.

Median earnings for full-time employees in the UK is £28k.

I agree for the majority of people their disposable income won't be a lot, and in real terms median wages have been shrinking under this government.

I earn above the median and would be happy to pay a bit more in tax if it meant improvements in public services, reductions in inequality, improving workers' rights and investment in the economy. An extra 5% on income above £80k wouldn't make me any less ambitious.

For the record, according the ONS, the top 20% of earners had average gross earnings of £87k and average disposable incomes of £62k in 2015/16. That's over £5k a month to spend on housing, food etc.

I will give him that.

sounds fair comment stirling!

rather than pay more...why not simply choose where your tax goes instead?

I proposed on another thread I think that 20% should each go to Police, NHS, Education, Public services...with the remainder split in to 4 x 5% chunks going to the causes of your choosing..

er... we have around 5-6million kids in education. Think that lot may need a bit more than the police force and the NHS - caring for over 65million - will need a helluvalot more than them.
