Hiltco posted a tweet this morning about the Palace search for a man to replace Roy and has attached a golf video that does, in my opinion, sum up how a lot of people on here may feel right now. It did give me a chuckle [Tweet Link]

Now I know this is all in the press so nothing new but I’m being told yes I know what you will all say but I am being told tonight that providing no hitches we will have a new manager hopefully within 48hrs. That man is Lucien Favre 3 year contract talks are progressing but all is going well & SP is very confident we have our man. Only passing what I have been told, may be rubbish but just passing on the info. Times up Dazza. Wot's happening. We need to know.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I'm very far from being an expert but it seems unlikely to me that anyone in a position of influence involved in talks about the next Palace manager needs more money to the extent that they'll nip off down the bookies and stick a cheeky tonne on with Ladbrokes. Surely any movement in the odds is not only resultant from bets being made rather than actual info the bookies have, but (more to the point) those placing bets must by definition be unconnected to the inner circle? \ next manager odds are not a race - nobody knows who the runners are till it's too late, it's all smoke and mirrors and odds go down more if there are genuine negotiations taking place, not weight of money - bookies will lower the odds in anticipation of betting on a particular candidate. There's a lot of interpretation and reading between the lines required to come to any conclusion - all the odds say atm re Favre is that it is being seriously considered, there's a bit of fire to this smoke, how much is anyone's guess, but like the Nuno situation there is something happening, how it turns out is another matter.

Negotiations obviously affect prices but that tends to be when they're not private. The books on next manager odds markets are quite small and for some of the smaller ones, which palace will be in the grand scheme of things, small ish bets can reduce odds significantly. As soon as a bookmaker knows something that's not in the public domain they'll close the book or make it stupidly odds on.
Why would anyone chose to be a Seagull? The Eagle is a far superior creature. The Seagull lives under it's damp pier meekly looking out, blinded by the sheer quality of the Eagle's palace. |

The takeover talk cannot help with manager recruitment.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |
