Elon Musk brings volatility, not value, as he did with Dogecoin. I wouldn't be surprised if they've already rejected his offer in private. Rich guy roulette doesn't favour the house. Edited by BlueJay (25 Apr 2022 11.31pm)

I noted there were a couple of mass shootings there recently, yet barely a whimper from the press. I suppose it's just everyday so hardly news anymore.

Wrong skin colour. Going on the name, one sounded like a white fella but I didn't look into it. James or something. I presumed last week was gang related, again didn't look it up. There are probably more.

If it doesn't fit the angry white guy narrative that the media want then you can pretty much know without even looking.

The levels of 'cope' on display are so revealing. Be interesting to see the racial makeup of his victims.

Trump has apparently said at rallies that the enemy consists of no more than about 1,000 rich and powerful people. It’s interesting he’s been saying that. He didn't bugger all about it though when he was in office.....when that was the core message of his inauguration.

He didn't bugger all about it though when he was in office.....when that was the core message of his inauguration. I can find no trace of that being said, but what Trump says is becoming increasingly irrelevant. His "Truth Social" is widely regarded as a bad joke that even he doesn't use. That's not to say that those who regarded him as a messiah are irrelevant. There is clearly a large group of unhappy people in the USA, but it seems they are going to need a new snake oil salesman to coalesce around, or they will splinter. I remember only too well his inauguration speech. It was anticipated by many with a sense of concern about his unpredictability, but also with hope that he would prove to be healing and hopeful. The event exceeded every worst fear. It was appalling beyond words, but at least set the tone for what was to follow. His "drain the swamp" promise was the only one I ever agreed with, but it clearly meant something different to him than it did to me. People like him epitomise the swamp in my view. Tackling corruption and tax avoidance is obviously needed. The rich and powerful will always exist, so once you deal with one manifestation, another will arise to be tackled. What staggers me is the idea that this is either something new or that there is any coordination. It's as old as time, and the only thing that binds them is a shared motivation. They aren't though "the enemy". They are just one product of capitalism, which needs to be managed, because, ultimately, we manage them, and not them, us. We are the pipers. We just need to stay in tune.

The Biden presidency was celebrated and welcomed by many on Hol. I remember saying that their happiness was ill placed and that the economy would be wrecked and that the Democrats would be predictable and make the US look weak and that there was an increased danger of China invading Taiwan. It turns out that I was dramatically proven right on the economy even before this war started...see image. In terms of foreign policy it's been the Ukraine that has been the war that having a president like Biden has encouraged. Afghanistan was probably the nail in the coffin in terms of doubts. Does anyone with a clear mind think that China aren't looking at the next two years of Democrat power and thinking that invading Taiwan while the Democrats still hold power is their best chance? Do you seriously think they will let that opportunity slip? Especially since the US have been threatening them over Russia anyway. Edited by Stirlingsays (19 Apr 2022 3.14pm) Is there nothing that happens that you don't think is the fault of the Democrats and Biden? Maybe he created the pandemic? You obviously think he encouraged Putin to invade Ukraine. The world's supply chain problems and energy crisis? All the fault of Biden. Every analysis I have read, barring yours and those from the nutty side of the right, suggests that a Chinese invasion of Taiwan is very unlikely and has, if anything, decreased as a consequence of Putin's war. The Chinese are pragmatists who play the long game. The risks are just too big. If they were seriously thinking of doing it, then they would have done so whilst Trump was in office, and proclaiming an "America First" policy. Trump was far more likely to have stood back and let it happen than the US under a Biden presidency.
