He would undoubtedly have yellow-carded me.

Some of those who have read the whole of his diatribe might be interested to know how I abused this poor soul so I have quoted below exactly what transpired

I often wonder why football fans refer to themselves,or are referred to by others as "supporters" when they have never supported the club ,EVER, by way of putting money in to a club's coffers to keep them in business.

No,these people are "followers" in the same way that camp followers supported an army in times gone by, but dissappeared like the night mist on asunny morning when that army suffered a change in fortune. Of course, they know everthing that there is to know about "their club" because they are well read, or perhaps not.

You have a very narrow definition of the word supporter which seems to be in line with your own prejudices.

I support Boris Johnson but I've never paid him any money

It seems that RRA77 has a narrow definition of the term personal abuse as well as the word supporter

At the risk of derailing this to talk about football..the general consensus at the end of the seven games losing run seemed to be that we had a small aging squad that needed attention. Given that we have brought in a free transfer we already had, a loan signing and one actual purchase and sold a bloke we'd already sold there has been surprisingly little comment on how we are doing. Perhaps everyone is quiet...but are they? The below is from the guardian and is boosted in some cases by some clubs being loan mad..(und is undisclosed).

Arsenal - In 10 (5 free, 1 und, spen 32.2) - Out -( 8 loans, 2 free, 1 und, Fees 20m)
Villa - in 12 (4 free, 1 und, 1 loan, spend 84m) - Out 7 (4 free, 1 und, 1 loan, Fees 3m)
Brighton - in 7 (1 free, 3 und, Spend 2.7m) - Out 19 (loan 12, 1 free, 2 und, Fees 21.
Burnley - in 4 (1 und, 3 free) - Out 9 ( loan 4, free 4, und 1)
Chelsea - in 7 (free 2, und 1, Fees 203m) - Out 23 (loans 13, und 2, fees 70.2m)
Palace - in 4 (1 free, 1 und, 1 loan, Spend 16m) - Out 2 (1 free, Sorloth 20m) (some went to trab though)
Everton in 4 (fees - 63m) Out - 9 - (4 free, 1 und, fees 3.8m)
Fulham - in 7 (loans 3, fees 25.9) - Out 8 (Loan 6, und 1, free 1)
Leeds - in 11 (loans 1, und 3, spend 89m) Out - 4 (Loans 4)
Leicester in 2 (loan 1, fees 21.5) - Out 9 (loans 2, free 5, und 1, fees 50m)
Liverpool in 3 (spend 80m) - out 14 (loans 5, free 5, und 1, fees 21m)
Citeh - in 6 (und 1, swap 1, loan 1, spend 65.5m) - Out - 24 (loan 16, swap 1, und 3, free 2, fees 42.7m)
United - in 2 (1 loan, spend 34.7) - Out 14 (loans 6, free
Newcastle - in 6 (3 free, 1 loan, spend 35m) - Out - 12 (loan 7, free 5)
Sheff U-in 7 (loan 1, swap 1, und 1, free 1, spend 29.5) - Out 12 (loan 7, und 2, free 2, swap 1)
Southampton - in 2 (spend 22.9m) out -10 (3 loan, 1 und, free 4, fees 21m)
Spuds - in 6 (1 loan, 1 free, 1 und, spend 57.2m) - Out 12 (loan 5, free 2 , und 3, fees 12m)
WBA - in 7 (1 loan, 1 free, 1 swap, spen 29m) out - 10 (1 swap, loan 6, 2 free, 1 und)
Wet Spam - in 2 (1 und, spend 19.2m) out - 12 (loand 1, free 6, und 2, fees 27.5m)
Wolves - in 6 (1 free, 1 loan , spend 73.4m) out 18 (loans 9, und 4, free 2, fees 71.7m)

Quality not quantity is the aim of the game with transfers for me albeit with some cheaper long term investments I.e youth signings to compliment those coming in to challenge for first team places.

Btw Villa signing 12 players I can't find much record of (maybe u23 recruits? Or maybe I'm reading it wrong).

Despite a polite request to keep this thread vaguely on topic, it seems to have descended into nothing more than a personal venting thread for some (quite a lot in fact) of posters.

I am locking this thread for 24 hours, unless someone pm's me with accurate, important transfer news.

Anything else (to do with incoming players) can be posted on the threads for individual transferees.

All seems a bit quiet of the transfer front. I'm hoping the cogs are whirring behind the scenes and we haven't just decided that after the good start we don't need anyone else.

I have a feeling either negotiations are ongoing, the Sorloth sale has altered our plans or we may be looking at some last minute dealings as we are used to.

In any case, at least we got Eze and Bats sorted early. Here's hoping we continue our good start to the league and we see a few more in-comings before the end of the window!

Grateful for any updates that can be provided!

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

It’d be great if this thread could get back to what it does best - people slagging each other off.

In the meantime, I don’t expect us to bring in anyone else particularly exciting, couple of young ones maybe.

According to my sources, Crystal Palace are considering a move for Vitesse Arnhem left-back Max Clark amid the uncertainty over the future of Patrick van Aanholt.

My sources say this is a somewhat uninspiring link that we can only hope is cheap. His political views are unknown, as is his ability to take a free kick around/under or over a wall.

I’ll keep you posted.

We've all been given a timeout and hopefully we've learned. I for one will be happy to discuss any cheap left backs, but I've opened a separate thread on Clark. Seems unlikely, unless we're finding solid backup.

I am hopeful of another striker, but not as a Sorloth replacement.
