12 US senators have threatened the International Criminal Court, not to proceed with an arrest warrant for Netanyahu for crimes against humanity. When you hear people....usually on the left or social liberals talk about 'international law', you have to smirk at the gaslighting that goes on. I can still hear Nick Clegg and the liberals waffling about it on Iraq....Bush and Blair. International law doesn't exist.....what exists is the rule of the powerful over the less powerful using whatever language they wish to cloak it in....Always has, always will....The 'international law' mob usually talk more extraneous waffle than a Kier Starmer speech. Nothing happens without the powerful agreeing to it.....They don't follow 'laws' they don't agree with and never will. Reading the letter makes that very clear. Surely in the war scenario, especially when one side is 'winning', you underestimate the sheer power of a strongly-worded letter.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

It’s not going to happen as Hamas jump straight back to persecuting their own people and attacking Israel as the article shows. 3 solidiers were killed BTW. Edited by cryrst (05 May 2024 11.59pm) Whilst every life lost is a tragedy when so many innocent civilians are being killed every day making a big deal out of the loss of 3 combatants, makes no sense. We know Hamas are unprincipled terrorists who hide behind those innocents. There’s little point in reporting their every move. A possible peace deal, and the responses of both sides, is a much bigger story which has the potential to save thousands of lives.

Elected or in this case nominated officials respect one thing.....money....anyone with real principles never made the interview. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 May 2024 9.22am)

I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it.

The return of 31 hostages was part of a peace deal.

Did you deliberately miss the point? No, but I suspect the post I replied to did. The original point was about which story deserved prominence. I brought it back to that.

Piers Morgan, of all people, doing a good job on highlighting the absurdity of so much of Israel's narrative in this conflict; [Link] The idea that they know exactly how many combatants they have killed, but can't even offer a ball-park suggestion on civilian deaths, is just so stupid it beggars belief. Either they know the death toll, and won't share the civilian side of it because it won't make pretty reading. Or they don't know it, and that would make their claims of killing thousands of Hamas combatants a complete guess to try and justify further action. All of this while insisting they're doing a great job in minimising civilian casualties, despite in the same breath claiming they have no idea how many civilian casualties there are. A pathetically dishonest regime and it blows my mind people still take anything they say remotely seriously.

You could be describing the United States of lies, is it the same country? Listening to them on Aljazeera, as they squirm and wriggle. Trying to shut down all criticism, the 'beacon of democracy' down to 55th place in the world press freedom table. Israel in 101st, how unsurprising. Totally isolated at the UN, international law's remit does not apply to them. They are mutually appalling.

So Israel reject the ceasefire deal (which included the release of hostages) and proceed with their assault on Rafah instead. Hamas had already accepted the terms of the ceasefire negotiated by Qatari and Egyptian mediators. The deal is purportedly very similar to the Egyptian proposal which was previously accepted by Israel but Netanyahu has rejected it. "Israel's war aims are longstanding state policy where annexation is the goal, ethnic cleansing is the method and self-defence is the excuse."
