only if you fall for all the bollix printed in the media every time a name is associated with a club. What's wrong with clubs taking their time to find the right appointment? Everton, Palace and Spurs all have their own unique needs - we all know what a wrong managerial appointment looks like. The 'saga' you speak of shows diligence rather than falling for the first fancy name that comes in for interview. Eh? I was responding to someone who quite clearly stated that the Everton job was basically settled. My point was pretty much the one that you just made - nothing is done until it’s done. I didn’t say anything about the timing of it all - the "saga" I refer to wasn’t about interviews, but reports in the media of managers being close to appointments. That is a saga and it is unusually farcical. Whilst Sky are hardly paragons of journalistic integrity, making a claim that something is all but done is more than just casual speculation. And, usually, if they claim numerous things are all but done - in some instances alongside publications such as the Athletic - you’d expect at least some of these things (or perhaps even most of these things) would be based on something official and pending confirmation. This summer, that hasn’t been the case at all. They’ve claimed numerous posts are about to be filled prior to it all collapsing. As for Palaces timing, I’ve said since the start there is no reason we needed a manager in place in the immediate weeks following Roy’s departure. But, actually, it is reaching the point where need to start pulling our finger out. Director of football model or not, our situation is not comparable to that of Everton or Spurs. Did you read the exchange between me and the other poster. And if you did - what are you sounding off about, exactly? Edited by Mstrobez (18 Jun 2021 1.02pm)

so we're agreeing? Cool We’re agreeing that just because Sky claim that Rafa has been offered the job and is happy to accept it at Everton, that that isn’t necessarily the case, yes. But I would still reiterate that the managerial situation in England has developed into a bit of a farcical saga, not in the context that people haven’t been appointed yet, but just in the nature of the reporting. It has been utterly diabolical, even by British sporting media standards. I suspect this is largely to do with, as sydtheeagle suggested, a slight undermining of agent power in the wake of Covid. And more specifically in our case, the fact we have an owner who does not allow the club to be mugged off. Whether you’re pro or anti-Parish, that’s one thing you must admire about him. One things for sure, whilst Sky have never exactly been solid with speculation, most would consider them a cut above the tabloids and they certainly present themselves as such. That is definitely no longer the case - even then Sun have been more reliable than them so far. I cannot believe the amount of times Sky have claimed a club has been "closing in" on a manager, only to swiftly move on when he isn’t ultimately appointed, act like it never happened and do it all over again. It really is poor.

Favre sounds a great manager, but hiring him to manage on a shoestring would seem pointless to me. If we plan to spend nothing, get a manager in who'll make us run our bollocks off for 38 games and play defensive.
If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities. |

You'd like to think the club will consider whether the coach is the best fit for the budget, given only they know what the budget is.
