With an organised defence we would have won 3 or 4 nil last night. That’s the impact of Olise & Eze - we should have been out of sight when they went off. That we scraped home 3-2 and were set up to fail at the back with players out of position - that’s the impact of the manager. Exactly this. There are about 6 or 7 posters on here that continue to support Roy’s bizarre tactics, selections and substitutions, the rest can see the issues on the pitch. I’ve not seen us this poor defensively since Roy arrived. It’s supposed to be the strength of his philosophy but it’s just not working at present.

The seat next to me declared 'we should win this about 6-1 now' after we got back to 1-1. I agreed and thought that was a very reasonable stance to take at the time. They probably threatened about 4 times yesterday, scoring twice and hitting the bar on one occasion. We again looked like a thrown together Sunday League team tactically.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

What is the story with corners? They have become like certain safety for the opposition defence. We haven't scored from one ALL SEASON. Says a lot. Agreed however the short corner to Eze looked far more threatening.

We looked like the players had their own ideas in that match. Olise and Eze decided when to go off themselves. Looked to me like Roy wasn't expecting that. We have to do something urgently about set pieces. It's crisis point now. If I were Parish I'd be signing a set piece consultant and giving them some time.

Even if we weren't doing well, just going to every match in a season does sound great. Bleeding expensive nowadays!

Re: Olise & Eze going off 'injured'. I've mentioned this before & got shot down for it, but, yet again Roy ignored the Medical people about Olise, saying it was his decision to play . . . [Link]
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

Well, anyone pushing for Richards to be our permanent right back must have been given food for thought in the opening seconds last night. In terms of the defence as a unit, I'm starting to think that having a nervy Henderson behind them as opposed to the calmer and more imposing Johnstone is having an effect. It's entirely plausible to think that if Olise and Eze had played together more often this season we would have another few more points in the bag which would take us to our spiritual home of mid table. We still badly miss last seasons version of Doucoure in midfield. I'm looking forward to seeing what Wharton will do to improve that situation. Over the 90 minutes we caused more of our own problems than Sheffield created. If we had scored the opening goal I think that could have been a two or three goal margin win. Respect the win. Together with the two new signings, yesterday was a good day and we can go into this weekends game with a lot more positivity than of late.

[Link] Tellingly, the medical team didn't say he's not ready, don't select him. They said it might be too much for him. Olise then did what was agreed - when he felt he he couldn't carry on, he flagged it.

A most welcome victory, coming from behind twice to secure all the points.

Yes, but it wouldn't be Palace and this bonkers season if we didn't have the drama of 2 (?) cracking players signing and, on the same day, having a scrappy, nervy win where BOTH our effective players limped off injured.
