UK census options for White people: White English, Welsh, Scottish, Northern Irish or British So the UK Govt does think white ethnicity is a thing, they need to be educated by a poster on here
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

There is an assumption by some that we need more people to run our economy. I believe that is incorrect. See the AI thread.

Of course it is a 'thing'. When you fill in various forms there is often a list of ethnicities to choose from, 'white' is usual the first in the list. Then you go on to imply that using the word 'white' in relation to ethnicity is somehow racist! Filling in forms? So what? A government can seek whatever statistics it wants in whichever way it wants but it cannot change the meaning of words. This explains it quite well, and comes from Dictionary.com:- "What is ethnicity? It’s easy to confuse race and ethnicity. Both words are sometimes, but not always, used to describe a person’s heritage as tied to their ancestry or place of origin. Ethnicity, however, is generally used in reference to a person’s cultural markers, not their physical appearance. An ethnicity is a social group that shares a common and distinctive culture, religion, or language. It also refers to a person’s ethnic traits, background, allegiance, or association." Note, Not their physical appearance. So "white" is not anything to do with ethnicity!

They are just using shorthand to assist people in completing census forms. Which I think is unfortunate as it allows the kind of views that are found here to gain traction. Ethnicity has nothing to do with the colour of someone's skin.

SE Asian countries? which would they be then? Singapore and Malaysia for example, you are saying that criminality is the same in those countries as say, the Philippines ,which is absolute nonsense.Vietnam is nothing like you describe, nor is Thailand or Brunei.I was last in Indonesia pre covid and then and the many times I have been there it was nothing like you describe. Edited by HKOwen (01 Jun 2023 7.16am) The claim was made for SE Asia as an entirety. I know that it is untrue, because I have lived there. I have been to Singapore, and know someone who now lives in Vietnam, who tells me that whilst safer than the Philippines is still uncomfortable where he is. I haven't been everywhere, and I am sure that other places are better than my own experience but the person I was answering hasn't been to any of them but was making a blanket claim about the whole region, which I know to be untrue.

Edited by HKOwen (01 Jun 2023 8.40am) So long ago I cannot remember but I expect I would have answered as honestly as I could, given the context of the questions. That doesn't mean I agree with the context of the questions. My MP may well be long-suffering. Being a Tory MP at the moment cannot be easy. She is though doing her best to help me and has offered to meet the Minister involved on my behalf. A meeting she will try to arrange for me to attend. You cannot ask more from your representative.

Some of the ex-pats I know call it the "Wild-East", love the lack of law and order, and enjoy the need to protect themselves. The people are lovely, warm and friendly but start an argument over even a tiny matter and they might shoot you.
