I guess he has time on his side to make a decision. Let’s be honest, potentially the most important one of his playing career. He could be waiting to see who the manager will be - so lots to consider. If he stays, it must be with no regrets. Preseason starts in a few weeks, so all should become clearer by then. He's got time on his side in that he's only 30. He could sign a four year contract and still, injuries permitting, be able to play for Megabucks in the Ronaldo league for a couple of seasons.

I don’t think the importance of Zaha can be underestimated For years he was the only threat and had 2/3 players on him. Now though with Olise and Eze sides have other things to think about - put 2 on Zaha and you give them room. Put 2 on one of them and you give Zaha space. The three of them and a decent forward could tear sides apart next season. That and what happens if one gets injured, you need backup. Also him staying may encourage Eze and Olise to stick round for a few more and if he goes that’s another senior pro - and we’ve already let Milo and MacArthur go.

Really, 60k more than any other player, one who is past his best and injury prone, its ridiculous. If we were to sign Zaha as a new player today we wouldn't offer him 150K pw, but the fact is after inflation that represents less than when he signed his last deal in real wage terms. The club will probably look at the likelihood of us signing a player of Zaha's ability, being able to afford the fee and how much in wages they would want. If the squad were unhappy about wage disparity I imagine they would be more unhappy about Edouard's £85k pw for doing f*ck all. With regard to his injuries he played 27 out of 38 games this season and 33 out of 38 last season. I think the "injury prone" narrative is a bit premature for a player who has historically been one of the most durable. If he was at peak Zaha levels he would already have signed for Arsenal. I'm ok if he leaves, but I get a bit defensive when some people seem to attack the guy. He might be a moany old git but he is our moany old git.

I think the "injury Prone" thing is a gamble, it might be ok or it might not, McArthur was durable, i wouldn't gamble on it, but a lot of people would. As for Edouard he should be shipped out on loan even if we have to pay half his wages, because i cant see anyone buying him, or him wanting his 85k a week stop.

Reports now saying he's actually been offered 150k pw, not 200. What this tells me is that no-one really knows anything. That does sound a bit more realistic though if true. He probably brings in quite a lot of money in terms of marketing and shirt sales, so the club could probably justify that kind of bump. Not sure where we are heading on shirts. Say 25,000 shirts/year x £30 profit. That’s total Palace shirts. That’s less than £1m a season.

Time to get off the fence,Wilf,so you can let the Club forward plan, with or without you.Being unable to make a definite decision after many years would appear to be quite ridiculous. Edited by Jacey (05 Jun 2023 10.50am)

With the right CF it really is a seriously good front 4. Best outside of the top 6.

He might be a moany old git but he is our moany old git. real wages and inflation linked mention in football wages - wow. Normal people get a wage per year, Prem footballers get a wage per week. Normal rules clearly don't apply. Additionally covid has clearly had an impact on wages. I do think Wilf is worth more to us than the basic stats (he has got us more penalties and players sent off than i can remember, but these are excluded from stats), however, IMHO his best 2 seasons were in Roy's first 2 years, 2017/18 and 18/19. We are now in 2023. His injury record over the years has been fantastic, however, he has limped off 3 times in the last 4 months, which is a concern (2 hamstring and 1 groin) and should not be ignored. So to state he will score us 10 goals and play most games is clearly a hope rather than the reality. I do hope he re-signs but on a contract that is both realistic and affordable. If it is c£150k as has been quoted this weekend i hope that is incentive based and is for maybe 2 years with perhaps the option of another year. If a champ league side come in for him - Newcastle and/or Arsenal seem obvious options, i have no issue if he decides to go. What we need to avoid is this saga going on all summer.

The politics of that and whether he is worth it are other issues. The idea that wealthier individuals don't consider inflation seems very naïve. Wilf has a property portfolio, his own team (who will likely all have asked for higher wages in recent years) and other investments. People who work their way up from nothing are often acutely aware of every penny even when they're sitting on a mountain of cash.
