It is a fact that Boris Johnson was the choice of the members in 2019 and he has been removed by the Parliamentary Party without referral to the membership. Edited by Willo (20 Jul 2022 6.39pm)

Whatever duffer you are who you voting for? I shall attend the hustings and will listen as carefully as a 'Pointer' that has got wind of a partridge. Away from the hustings I will take great interest in the viewpoints of the candidates and will form a judgement based on a plethora of factors.

Attaboy! Rishi just feels a tad too slippery and something of a schemer.

I don't really have a dog in this race.....as Hitchens commented, 'it's like being asked which is your favourite disease?'. Badenoch was the best of a bad bunch in my view. However, what I will say is for Sunak is this....as much as lower taxes are the heartbeat of the neo liberal Tories.....considering the state of the finances after two years of printing money while 40 percent of the country was kept at home......lower taxes is fantasy land....Sunak at least recognises that. The cost of those decisions (which he was brought into government to push through, because Javid wouldn't)....policies many agreed with and argued for....those costs are only just starting. And what you fail to understand is that he is an affable after dinner speaker and deliverer of clever bon mots, so will always garner popular (and populist) support. However, he was always faking it as a statesman. He lacked both acumen and presence and was kept under tight wrap by his minders who always knew his severe limitations. He got found out. And if you are genuinely labouring under a delusion that it woz the media wot dunnit, quite frankly you must be joking. They only reported what they saw, including the Tory press barons who realised that he had become a liability for both party and country. The only tragedies are that: a. It took them that long; and This is the biggest shot in the foot by the Tories since Hague. Just saw footage of Liz on newsnight aged 16 doing a Haguesque speach at the liberal party conference, knocking the monarchy-she might have had info on Andrew as she was 16- who knows!

She wasn"t aware she would be modelling herself on Maggie at that conference 30 years later, but she might have some spunk in her after all, she had an extra marital affair 3 years after getting married- spunky lady indeed! Im kinda growing on Liz , I mean Liz is kinda growing on me!

Thing is silver, the Tories won the last election with a huge majority largely because of Boris. I don't deny he became a liability, but the quality of those likely to replace him doesn't look at all encouraging. No, they won the last election because the public saw Boris as the only solution to Brexit fatigue; and because of a fractured and ineffective opposition. The latter will be slightly less impacting as Starmer - while dull - is not a 1970s Trotskyite repelling those with a greater propensity to vote (i.e. us greys) and who actually remember the 70s. The former will be wholly absent. The public still love him; but not as our leader. Brand Boris is so severely tarnished by scandal that he (and significantly those closely associated with him) will not be able to enjoy any populist Brexit Bonanza next time round. Instead, they will have to woo a public so cash stripped as a consequence of facts arising under their watch (NB I do not say their fault; but the public tend not to factor in those subtleties) that winter poses a genuine threat to their health. The only unwilling ally you still have is the SNP. Ironic that they despise the Tories and desperately desire independence, but a vote for them keeps their enemy in power.
