Please stop making excuses for VG'S blunder. Next you'll be saying that in coaching sessions the coach advises that when there are 60 seconds left on the clock in a game that one is winning 1-0 it is best advised to weakly punt the ball just over the halfway line to where the opposition players are grouped and not to the sideline, where, if the ball goes out of play the remaining seconds are likely to be run down.

Yes, our general play was impressive but what is worrying me is that we created so few decent chances. This has to be addressed and the likes of Luka, Kouyate are not the answer. MacArthur is a live wire and worth his place but we need to find a midfield playmaker. Supposedly Hughes is that man and Olise should provide a link with Zaha but we are negative in persisting with the old midfield brigade. Benteke is not the man he once was and Edoard will progress BUT where are the crosses coming from? I longed for Andros on the right wing instead of Ayew to give us much needed balance. With a few key changes (and perhaps giving Butland a chance to show his catching abilities) our 'new look' will start to provide goals and points.

I'm not comfortable with VG taking all the blame (probably 55% of it is fair). He made the right decision with the attempted long ball down the wing, it was just badly executed with a scuffed hook. That goal could have still been prevented.

It was a frustrating end to the game but a very good performance otherwise. Plus, I've seen plenty of Palace sides do much stupider s*** than that, and the world didn't end.

Their goal was from a perfect opportunists' pass and then a perfectly struck lob. It was a really good goal. VG could repeat that kick 20 times and not concede a goal. Luck balances out over time and we've had a shedload against them in the last few games.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

It was a bad error by our keeper. We also had a guilt edge chance to make it 2.0 and Ayew just wasn’t good enough. We then wouldn’t have to worry about Guaita’s error. It’s a thin line but Guaita’s kick was terrible. Personally I would play Buckland this Sunday after costing us two points. I also wouldn’t play Ayew but I’m not sure we have a player who can press/defend as well as him at the moment. Not sure Schlup on the right is the answer as well. Prefer him on the left. We shall see who is selected at 1:00pm :-)

Hope that goes well, but I have my doubts

VG's easily been our best player over the course of the last two seasons and this has been talked to death. No one deliberately shanks the ball like that and our defence made some poor decisions regarding their positioning and attacking the ball. The irony of all this talk about attacking football is that Brighton created two of the best chances of the game by hitting the ball straight over the top and our over passing and inability to get a decent shot off when presented with a chance or half chance is a concern.

Absolutely cannot believe some fans reaction to that goal. When something happens which makes you angry, frustrated and upset, it’s natural to look to blame someone, it makes things so much neater in your own mind. Keepers hit balls like that out from their own box every day, at every level of football. It’s not unusual. Trossard reacted first, and played an outrageous weighted through ball, on the full volley. The precision of that pass took out the entire back line, and Maupay finished well. It’s football, last minute goals happen sometimes. If people think Guaita, one of the best goalies we have ever had, should be dropped because he didn’t connect well on a free kick out from his own area, then we better drop the entire team, as each one of them has scuffed a kick once or twice, even a set piece. Let’s bench players who take s*** corners too.
Trump lost. Badly. Hahahahahahaha. |

PS It was Veltman not Trosssard, who played the through ball to Maupay though that makes no difference to your point of course.
You can't change the way things are but you can change the way you are with the way things are. |
