The fact that it is an 18 month deal tells me he is our signing for our new manager rather than our current one There’s some sort of option/obligation to buy too, unsure on details. If he’s on our books now then he is by proxy for the current manager however at 23 18 months is a good time to get a look at the player and evaluate his potential as a longer term investment and presumably an option for subsequent managers. Seems a far sight better than £30million on a player who would soon begin a rapid descent in form.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Well he certainly can’t be any worse than what we’ve already got. Let’s hope Roy gives him a chance.

I think the problem with heading is the training rather than match day. Now, I know it's an art and you need to practice, but the repeat heading every day in training is what does the damage over time from what I understand from the research, not the few times each player heads it in a match. The heading training ball and/or technique needs to change. With regards to knees I expect that's all covered in insurance/contracts. I would expect at some stage discussions regarding the use of headgear.

Before we send Bats back it would be nice to see him and the new boy you never know they might work well together?

Think he’s a great signing... scores goals which is the main thing... seems a confident guy too... hope he gets an early chance.. love to see him score against West Ham... take that smug smile off Moyes’s Face....

I'm really quite excited about him signing. He's the exact type of striker we need. He's big and strong but unlike Benteke, he's mobile and quicker. He's also two footed and decent in the air. If we're patient with him and give him time to adjust and settle in, he could very well be the kind of player that's value rockets in a couple of seasons. If we can get one more in this window in midfield that is composed and creative, we could have a decent 2nd half of the season.

I hope he's preparing himself for some nasty treatment because he appears to get onto his feet as soon as he hits the ground with no messing about lets all hope he isn't influenced lol, appears very determined something that we haven't seen for quite some time.

However, you are right to suggest that the 18 month loan points to a desire on our part to make Mateta part of the club's longer term future. Edited by doombear (21 Jan 2021 2.28pm)
