It also makes it very difficult for players like Jason Roy to make the adjustments to his technique that he needs to do whilst facing Cummins, Hazlewood and Starc as he needs to do it back in County Cricket facing lesser bowlers

Truth is we just weren’t good enough. Even with the leg up of the ECB changing it’s rules to line up with ICC rules re who is eligible to play. So 3 years living here and you are in the team. Archer is the first player drafted in and certainly was one of our better performers. Inevitably, won’t be long before ‘England’ starts doing really well playing a whole load of new ‘citizens’

Edited by Stirlingsays (10 Sep 2019 5.48am) I agree, the positives are Archer and Burns. Root should not be Captain but I'm not sure who should. Bowling is just as big a problem as batting. Woakes seems decent to me - would rather move on from Broad and Anderson now as it is inevitable. Don't know why Woakes was dropped - rest maybe? Leach has done just about enough as a spinner but can hardly be considered world class.

Simon Harmer at Essex must be on the radar even if he is in the twilight of his career (and has played test cricket for South Africa).

Archer was born in Barbados and raised in the West Indies. He moved to the UK as a 20 year old. Archer was on the path to playing for the West Indies up until a few years ago. He is no different to a Pieterson who took advantage of a one parent nationality to play for a country he wasn't raised in. I have mixed feelings about it.....but he is certainly in the top five eligible bowlers in the English county scene.

Personally I don't see the point with continuing with players who have already shown that when the pressure is on.....they don't really have it. But you never know, maybe you'll prove me wrong. I think that you're right in that most of these players don't have what is required for test cricket. Whether that's their own fault or due to the coaching being tailored for the shorter game is a separate discussion. However, I don't think it's fair to bed new blood into a lose/lose situation before the whole set-up around test cricket and the priorities of the England team has been evaluated. If they're putting new faces in now they should have been brought in a test match earlier but you can argue that is partly aided by hindsight/what-might-have-beens

I find that hilarious. Hysterically so.
