Clearly the risk would be if they got injured they would be going nowhere. Also as part of the loan moves etc. the clubs may of wanted them before the Cup games as they are necessarily rocking straight into the 1st teams. I realise what you mean, it just seems that we never bargain well enough. I don't think Charlton are still in the cup are they? But Williams could so easily have been injured - wouldn't be the first time. Just frustrating we didn't have more people to try out in this game.

We made 8 changes from the starting line up of the last game....who else would you like to try out that are likely to make the first team squad..

Answer is we let their replacements go the day before, stupidly. I wanted rid of Williams, Mutch and Punch too but why not let them play this game then move them on. I think Roy may have seen this as a chance for them to bang some goals in at home .... a spectacle that has been sadly lacking.

That was a typical 3rd round Cup game, Grimsby defended well, but how much luck did they have? We seem to be hitting the woodwork at least a couple of times in most matches at the moment and needing 30 + attempts at goal to convert just one of them. Still we are in the 4th round and Watford up next in the league. I want some severe retribution dished out to them next Saturday, with plenty of late tackles aimed at Capoue and Doucoure. Quite. Anyone who has watched football for any length of time knows that these sort of matches against lower division opposition, which on paper look a dead cert victory, can often turn into frustrating affairs. Wholesale changes in the line-up don't necessarily help, whilst the opposition have nothing to lose. It wasn't always pretty yesterday but we won , which is more than Fulham, Cardiff and Leicester did against "weaker" opposition.
