I was more worried before the Arsenal and Chelsea games. Personally I think these games have forced us to pick our game up or be humiliated. Hopefully we can then carry this into more winnable games. Also, prior to Chelsea and Arsenal our defence had actually been fairly good (I think after 9 games only the top 6 had a better defensive record.) The big problem this season is undoubtedly scoring goals.

It's not losing to the likes of Chelsea that gives me cause for concern. We put up a decent fight for an hour but then once they stepped up a gear we couldn't go with them. No, it's losing woefully to the likes of Southampton and an average looking Wolves side, the failure to beat Newcastle , those are the results that are contributing to our points total and league position.

Eight points from eleven games is disappointing. But we matched the Arse and gave Chelsea a game. And we could so easily have had more points by now - the Sakho open-goal miss v Newcastle cost us two, Ward's likewise at Watford cost us one. Luka's pen miss at Everton probably cost us at least one, and we keep hitting the woodwork. All these show that we are matching the mid-table sides. Once we are through the next two matches (Spurs, Man Utd) I think we will start getting the points we deserve. And the really good news is that there are three teams below us with rubbish defences - Cardiff, Fulham and Huddersfield. If Fulham carry on in their current vein, losing games and conceding goals after spending nigh on £100 Mill in pre-season then there is every chance they will appoint a new manager and this could be the catalyst for their change in fortunes.

'In Roy we Trust' but his poor management of substitutions is costing Palace. He hands the initiative to the opposition each week. We should get fresh legs on earlier, not just for a cameo but to put the opposition under stress and bolster the defence too. As soon as the Chelsea subs appeared the concentration went and really surprisingly we just fell away. If RH is tired it is hardly surprising, but we do look like some of those England pedestrian non-creative displays. We didn't get Abrahams but I think Zaha needs a partner and really Kalkai has had a bad deal from Palace. They should play him and give him a proper chance, not just chucked on for a few minutes.

You've not really said much in your post though really have you? No one is expecting us to compete for champions league and no one is saying you need a billionaire to survive this league. However, i completely disagree with you regarding potential.. we have massive potential, if we had someone who was able to see how to unlock it. Look at our catchment area, the capital is miles away, we would be great for someone who wanted to do it. Watching football in the prem is far more entertaining than the champ, even tho we don't win as much.. well depends on what team you are looking at, palace or the opposition. Get a decent youth set up going. Create more home grown talent - make your money that way. Have a good scouting network - save some money that way. Enjoy decent cup runs - make entertainment on the side Get to 40 points in the quickest time possible. This is what we should be doing now, after 6 years in the prem. Not sacking a manager, bringing in a new one with money thrown at him... fail to properly back him, watch them walk, repeat repeat repeat. Can't see the forest from the trees people.... Yeah, simple, why didn't anyone else think of this. You should be our Chairman and Manager, give Dougie a bit of a handout as well.

Just seen MOTD. Our defence is pathetic! How can you possibly judge that based on minimal BBC coverage? Yes, they made a couple of errors that led to goals but for the most part kept one of the best teams in Europe at bay. Now if we had a striker who could convert our chances the season would already look completely different (and Chelski would've been chasing the game from early on).
Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five! |

Perhaps he should base his assessment on TalkSh!te reviews; they were so busy w***ing over Morata and Hazard they couldn't even get the score right. 3-0. Muppets.

I don't get those talking about entertainment being equated with the Championship. I would take the wins over Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool we've seen in recent years over a comprehensive win over Wigan or Preston. I want to see Palace compete with the best, not be comfortable with second best. Championship just equals less quality. At the end of last season we played some great stuff and I don't think we're a million miles away from getting that back. Furthermore, for me, in the last period in the Championship we played some of the worst football I have ever seen from us and were lucky not to get relegated to League 1. If we kept the same team and went down fair enough, but the reality is we would probably lose pretty much all the players that could entertain us or at least make us competitive. We don't need to get relegated, we just need to find a striker/goalscoring midfielder, or get one of our current lot playing like one. Who knows, maybe that goal will get Townsend scoring again?
