Let's be honest, both teams were absolute garbage. No patience, no composure on the ball, no measured build up play. Just crap. You can't keep defending your way to "success", whatever that means for us and expect it to work indefinitely. It isn't sustainable, at some point we have to improve in possession. It's not about being a gung ho all out attacking team, it's about being better on the ball. What's frustrating is up until the Brighton game, we looked to be playing some decent stuff. Good and intricate play in the final third, Wilf and Andros causing teams all sorts of problems in behind too. Today and Tuesday was just hit and hope at best, which makes it even more confusing. Today's games are the type of games we need to try and win. If we were 15th at the start of the game I'd take the point, but approaching the game in the way we did today is completely underestimating what is required for safety. We didn't look like scoring at all. Having said all of that, I think the Joel Ward haters can give it a rest for a little while now. He was exceptional today.

Ward excellent as was Speroni and Sakho, in fact even Schlupp defended pretty well today. Sako shouldn't be allowed to play football, please get Cabaye back to fitness asap as we miss him in the middle. West Brom tried very hard today and fought for every loose ball. I'll take that point every day of the week. If we are going to throw somebody into the fray for the last 10 mins or so why not a youngster ?

That's the first game (with either Jules or WH) that I haven't been scared s***less any time the ball came anywhere near our keeper. Hope he keeps his place, he's made up for his f***up in my book and now he's playing like he's got something to prove. (Still need a new keeper in Jan though).

I think they should play rock, paper, scissors before each match

Looked lost going forward, playing narrow really doesn't suit us. Would love to see wilf and andros wide, getting to the byline and putting crosses in for benteke. Great to be off the bottom though and now unbeaten in 4 games and two winnable home games to come.

Although I thought the ref had a reasonable match today, we could still do with some important decisions going our way. That handball from the backpass by Foster actually took the ball away from Wilf as he was getting up and would have been a tap in. It was as deliberate as you can get.

I have to say, in some way I think Benteke hinders our attacking option. When we had Townsend and Zaha up front we had to think about things more and it made the play more exciting and now it's just hoofball to benteke again. We do play some pretty good stuff on the ground when we choose to
