What's bizarre is that you think people should be sacked for being in legal relationships. Would you like to go and break up all the marriages that resulted from these legal consensual relationships? Maybe you want to break up cousins who marry next. If something is legal you don't sack people for it. A seventeen year old can make their own sexual decisions. That's why we have the age of consent. Maybe you should start your own 'Mary Whitehouse' campaign to put in age stipulations about who they can f***. Then you might have a leg to stand on. I think society is worsened by viewpoints of repression like yours and while the FA bossess should be sacked it's not because this guy was in a past consensual relationship which they had no problems with previously because....presumably it was legal. It’s not my ‘viewpoint’ it’s the law, how do you not grasp that.... 16 is the age of consent nobody is disputing that. Edited by Stirlingsays (19 Oct 2017 7.53am)[/quote

I do get the impression that there are some on here who are of the viewpoint that had the coach been black and the player white and the words used by the coach had expressed the same sentiments the sequence of events would have been totally different. And perhaps this is a view of many outside of HOL.

Has anyone heard anyone at their work say to young female workers, things like, 'Make sure your parents don't bring Ebola over', followed by people in fits of laughter? Is it said in the classroom from teacher to pupil? As it's so acceptable similar surely must've been said to bosses and owners of companies people here have worked for after they may have been back to their ancestral home for a break. 'Hey x, hope you haven't brought any <insert negative topical matter> over here.' Must go down a storm every time. I don't know why it isn't heard everyday, everywhere. Very Partridge or David Brent. This whole thing appears like the regional office being mixed in with the workers' tea room.

Does anyone honestly think she'll be welcomed back into the national team environment after this? On another (but similar) note I was walking down Times Square on Monday looking at my phone when a guy tried to make conversation with me. Unbeknown to him I'm partially deaf in my right ear and I was clearly concentrating on my phone (being a tourist)...he then shouted at the top of his voice..."Whats the matter? Are you allergic to BLACK people!" to which I just laughed...which is exactly the way you have to deal with these things. The race card is soooo overused and is getting boring. By doing so devalues the real instances of racism that occur.

Now here is an excellent example. Your post here parodies and/or appropriates what is referred to as "black culture". Is there anything wrong in it? In my view, not in the slightest, you're clearly not a racist, and you'd have to work pretty hard to be offended by it. Now take your exact comment above, and put it in the mouth (or keyboard) of, say, Nigel Farage, Boris Johnson, or even Mark Sampson - would it still be OK? If not, why not? I think this is the kind of thing people who become "anti-PC" tend to rail against.

It's appears to be you with the moral issues with the law not me. Whether it's inappropriate of not is not the point. If you sack someone for legal behaviour you deserve to pay a price in my book. I hope he takes them for all he can.

I've said it before I'll say it again having met him numerous times Nick is a top bloke as I'm sure most others are on here...we all have differing views which its good to express and debate but lets not fall into the trap of de-railing this thread by getting personal (on either side) shall we...lets get back on topic.

Bizarre that people seem to think of Sampson as some kind of victim. Should never have got the job in the first place, again a relationship between a 17 year old and a coach at an academy my be consensual but is highly inappropriate, I shouldn’t imagine you would like your 17 year old daughters to be shagging their teacher or doctor.
Are we all infallible? Have any of us done things we regret? Have any of us broken the law? I'd suggest that most of us have transgressed at least two of the above...but does that make us bad citizens? I'd suggest not.

Surely the most sensible course of action when she made her original complaint was for the complainee to say "Oh dear, that wasn't a very professional thing to say, We'll have a word with him to make sure it doesn't happen again" and that should have been the end of the matter
