The only losers in this absurd, luddite-inspired dispute are the travelling public. Terminate GTR's franchise and sack the strikers who, frankly, have absolutely no right to f*** people's lives up to the extent they have. This.

My guess is... If Southern stopped using the courts and engaged in finding solutions via meaningful talks with unions/ACAS... Then the strikes would be suspended. Oh, please - not that tired old dishonest cliche. Everyone knows what "meaningful talks" signifies: Give in to our demands and we'll stop striking. Nothing wrong with striking in a democratic society, but don't clothe your demands in that mealy-mouthed claptrap.

To me this gives them carte Blanche to smash the union. Worryingly, this all looks premeditated.

I remember in the 70s when strikes were pretty much a fact of daily life, strikers could actually claim the dole during the strike which, not unsurprisingly, caused of a bit of a hoo-ha. It was one of the Blessed Margaret's first actions to pull that rug from under them and quite right too.

Yeah, but I suppose if there is an accident that would have been preventable otherwise, one would imagine that the public would blame the staff. I suspect that's half the battle lost for the unions, as they are talking about the s*** that might happen whereas passangers are dealing with the s*** that does every day.
