The only losers in this absurd, luddite-inspired dispute are the travelling public. Terminate GTR's franchise and sack the strikers who, frankly, have absolutely no right to f*** people's lives up to the extent they have.

This.

My guess is... If Southern stopped using the courts and engaged in finding solutions via meaningful talks with unions/ACAS... Then the strikes would be suspended.

Oh, please - not that tired old dishonest cliche. Everyone knows what "meaningful talks" signifies: Give in to our demands and we'll stop striking.

Nothing wrong with striking in a democratic society, but don't clothe your demands in that mealy-mouthed claptrap.

Southwest have guards, SouthEastern have a ScotRail type agreement.
My guess is.... Southern is being used as a test case (hence the DfT offering this industry unique franchise deal). What happens at Southern will be rolled out nationwide... That is just a guess thou

working in the wider rail industry I think you are right from what I have picked up, DfT are paying GTR to union bash, no blame to the DfT all the public blame is against the unions or GTR, when this is all resolved then a precedent will be set and then the same will happen to all the other TOC's

Sometimes I set out for Ludlow
Sometimes I end up in Chepstow

I fear you're right, the current franchise agreement has no financial risk for Southern... To me this gives them carte Blanche to smash the union.

Worryingly, this all looks premeditated.

If they go on strike they shouldn't get paid!

Also, what happens if they go on strike when they are sick?

I remember in the 70s when strikes were pretty much a fact of daily life, strikers could actually claim the dole during the strike which, not unsurprisingly, caused of a bit of a hoo-ha. It was one of the Blessed Margaret's first actions to pull that rug from under them and quite right too.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I was countering the accusation that they would go sick as a form unofficial strike action.

I remember too Funty. I kinda hope Mother May has a similar approach as Saint Margaret.

I know, but you think they are right, I think they are abusing the public.

Yeah, but I suppose if there is an accident that would have been preventable otherwise, one would imagine that the public would blame the staff. I suspect that's half the battle lost for the unions, as they are talking about the s*** that might happen whereas passangers are dealing with the s*** that does every day.

A one and a two...
