Jeremy Corbyn clearly exaggerated when he said that the train he was on was "ram-packed" in order to make his case for rail renationalisation, because he now admits that there were a few single seats available but that he didn't want his wife and his team distributed randomly throughout the train. When there's an ongoing scandal over the Tory health secretary Jeremy Hunt's decision to bury the evidence that his 7 Days NHS agenda is unworkable and dangerous because there simply aren't enough staff it seems odd that week old train stunt is dominating the news agenda. There couldn't really be a better example of a deliberate distraction than millions of people talking about whether there were sufficient seats on one particular train on one particular day, rather than the fact that the Tory health secretary deliberately hid the evidence that his 7 Days NHS plan was inevitably going to lead to either service reductions or dangerously overworked staff. One man sitting on a train floor is suddenly more important than the safety of millions of NHS patients! from

Maybe everyone already thought Jeremy Hunt was a prick and just assumed Corbyn was just a bit kooky until now. Makes it a bit more exciting to gossip about.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

I'd rather believe Branson over Corbyn. Here is a guy who like most entrepreneurs started with nothing and actually creates wealth & jobs rather than someone who in all fairness couldn't run a bath...

I'm a bit bored of this statement (not getting at you personally, but it's a trope which I've heard trotted out by politicians in the media a lot recently). While it's true in principle (an adversarial parliament DOES need an effective opposition), I don't think the corollary (ie, that Corbyan somehow makes Labour ineffective as an opposition) is true at all. The truth is that all these so-called 'Blairites', (which is my term for all the trendy, metropolitan, centre-ground, conventional wisdom, equality-and-diversity loving people who make up so much of the parliamentary Labour party) would feel very comfortable in the Blairite Tory party. It's run by an arch-Blairite, who took over from a poor imitation of Tony Blair. If you have Blairites running both of the largest parties in parliament (which is what all these moaning Labour MPs basically want) then have a pretend opposition, not an effective one. The Brexit referendum showed the true divide in the UK. It's not between Tory MPs and Labour MPs (who actually agree with each other on pretty much everything) but between MPs in general and the public they are supposed to represent. I don't disagree with any of that I don't think. I see the current Labour party as a very poor opposition. But at least half of that is because the party is so divided. If the backbenchers shut their mouths and stood behind Corbyn I still think they'd lose the election but at least they would be a more effective unit.

It was an 11am train from London to Newcastle. It would never be "ram-packed". Which incidentally isn't even a phrase, apart from in the urban dictionary.
