I have a reasonable idea where some of your genes were. Some might say that would explain a lot as well. Edited by Stirlingsays (06 Oct 2022 4.17am)

University of York to give students £150 to help with the cost of living crisis., all very laudable. Of course another solution could be for Universities to cut their sky high fees which why their students are struggling in the first place.

I thought student loans and grants weren’t payable until you earned a certain salary after you have completed your education. Has that changed now ?

Tax breaks for all is fair unless you’ve got dough which makes you the enemy. Nurses are being asked about striking over pay. Where has that come from. They agreed a decent rise two years ago and now want more because we are in a worldwide dip. Do they think private companies and employees arnt struggling ?

Correct it is more of an impact in the future (I was venting) it saddles them with debt which impacts credit cards / loans / mortgages. However there is also student accommodation which impacts them now. I just think that universities have no interest in cost cutting and bleat that education would suffer. There is plenty of scope for cutting back for starters too many lecturers don't actually lecture or do the bare minimum as they are more interested in pursuing their personal research. I know this from a professor who is a friend. If the teachers actually put in a shift you wouldn't need as many. Then of course there are the mickey mouse courses and degrees which take 3 years and could be done in 2 if the faculty put their mind to it. Just like GPs they are a protected species.
