DB - I agree 100% with your post. It will take a number of transfer windows to drip feed younger players into our first team squad. In the meantime we will undoubtedly offer a number of the senior players contract extensions.

So you are saying it’s impossible for us to buy cheap and sell high because 1) we are too scared of getting it wrong 2) we will be priced out simply because we are a PL club. Sorry, I don’t buy into that. We don’t buy low and sell high for the simple reason we haven’t got the talent in our scouting department to find them and because we are too busy holding on by the edge of our teeth to our PL survival. There is no future whatsoever in us having this approach. How many duds have Brentford bought, because if you are buying them for peanuts you can always sell them on again for peanuts and there is no real loss? Players you buy do not have to always go directly into the first team, but it would appear from Brentford’s purchases that a lot of them do because they get it right. At £5.5m how much is Ivan Toney going to be worth next year, £20m plus? The loss is all the expense of trying them, if we are alongside them in the Championship then yes the risk is minimal and quite obviously worth it but then you're opening a can of worms in the department of them knowingly helping us as a rival to their success. I do appreciate what you're saying.

I, too, am impressed with what Brentford have achieved so far, and good luck to them. They may well make it into the PL this time and it will be interesting to see how they fare if they are successful. I am also impressed with what Moyes has just said, namely, that his club had recognized that it's about getting the right players in, not shelling out money left right and centre (as they had done in the Pellegrini era) simply to appease people. Spammers weren't able to get any of the strikers they wanted this window to replace Haller, so they didn't buy one. Instead , they've brought in Lingard on a temporary loan and made Benrahma's move permanent (the latter is getting better as he showed against us). We need to be careful how we spend what little money (relatively speaking) that's in our transfer kitty. It's clear (to me at least) that the days of bringing in old pros with PL experience has come to an end and that the club really do intend to focus on younger players with potential. Eze was the first and is showing what a potential asset he will be to the club, and hopefully, Mateta will prove to be the second. Ferguson may prove to be the third if he's ever fit enough and strong enough after his injuries. Whether Hodgson stays (and I don't rule that out) or a new man comes in, we are unlikely to see a sudden influx of new exciting youngsters from outside the club. The fact that six of our own youngsters are out on loan for the rest of the season points to where our medium to longer term priorities lie. In the meantime, we may see a couple of younger players arrive in the summer and a good number of our existing players offered extensions to their expiring contracts. As I've said before, it will be evolution NOT revolution in my view. I accept, of course, that I may be totally wrong. What's a nice post like you doing in a place like this ?

Another poster said that we don't take chances on younger / unproven players and generally he has a point. However it occurs to me that we have taken a chance with Ferguson not only was he injured but also he was hardly an established player at West Brom. Anyway I don't think we can afford to take too many chances with younger players. Edited by Badger11 (02 Feb 2021 5.16pm) Edited by Badger11 (02 Feb 2021 5.16pm)

All a bit negatively odd with Ferguson. For a young guy he is taking a very long time to heal. Sadly, the longer it goes on with knees the less likely it is to make a full recovery. Just as our experience shows.

There are a number of young prospects in the lower divisions who would hardly come cheap. Edited by Willo (02 Feb 2021 5.27pm)

Looks like Roy is heading down the Donald Trump route and refusing to go. Lets hope SP does not buckle and puts the old Hodgesaurus out to grass, and can we move on from playing like 1980s Inter Milan.

Your supposed to at least keep up with some previous posts to get some sort of impression about what to write in order to not sound ignorant and stupidly annoying.

I am curious as to why you feel the need to spend what would seem like almost every day trying to police this thread to suit your own unjustified arrogant opinions? Your insults also only ironically reflect back on to yourself as a poster.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I'm already in the Roy Out brigade and have been for some time. However....Mr Hodgson. I have just spent £25 to get BT sport so I can watch Mateta play tonight. If he doesnt come on then you can leave the club in the morning for me haha

Could have already been announced.
