This time IMO he will be playing next week. Speroni stayed in goal for a few more games after that cock up. I remember as he made several more cock ups before the penny dropped with Dowie, most memorable was the goal he conceded against Portsmouth when he actually dived wide of the goal to palm the ball that was going wide back into the net. His spell in goal effectively got us relegated that season even though ho only played about six games.

Of course it was a howler. If he had belted it upfield there was far, far less chance of them coming back and scoring, especially with so little time left. To play the ball short, when the player didn't call for it and when he could see the situation in front of him was terrible keeping. He was instructed by management not to! We didn’t have a target Man on the pitch. He did what he had been doing in training and drills all week long.

Several times during the first half he kicked the ball long so that seems to make your argument spurious. His decision, no-one elses, to give a suicidal ball. Awful keeping.

The fact none of those managers manage in top flight football also speaks volumes. The one that does and has managed his country as well as some of the most elite football clubs in the world has rightly outed Hennesey and replaces him with the better goal keeper. So let’s have it right yeah. If you are saying that the opinions of managers that haven't managed in top flight football don't count what does that say about the opinion of a keyboard warrior who has never managed any sort of football club at all.

I don't think Jules made a howler. First up, his dummy on the Everton player was sensible because if he'd hoofed it the ball could have rebounded straight into the net. Second, if he'd then cleared it upfield straight back to Everton and they'd come right back and scored he'd have been blamed. Yes it was much better to do some needless show boating and make sure they scored.

Speroni is, in my opinion, still slightly more reliable than Hennessey, hence why Roy chose him.

The manager who signed him doesn't even manage in the top flight anymore! The evidence is compelling yet you lot still insist that you know better. Silly silly. It was great thanks, shame about yours by the look of it. Mine was amazing mate. Got to see my hero in goal for the team I love and then spend time with my family. Shame about the result. But everything is looking up in general I feel. Plus! No Henessey. Was a good weekend. Hope you’re well mate. Edited by Brentmiester_General (20 Nov 2017 10.27am)

The two incidents are light years apart in the howler stakes. In fact i’d say he laid to rest the ghost of the howler against Kevin Campbell by taking the Bali around their attacker beautifully on Saturday. The mix up between him and Dann can’t really be described as a howler. And if you insist on calling it that, who howler was it. Dann’s or Jules?

Let’s overlook the two seasons Jules helped a much weaker team stay up comfortably compared to the two Hennessey helped a much stronger team take it right down to the wire. Funny how things can be twisted to support an argument. At the end of the day Hennesey’s Palace career is done and perhaps his international career now that they have the opportunity to bring through a younger/better keeper without the worry of having to qualify. The guy has made a good living and has been bang average throughout his entire career. You can at least take some comfort from that for him. He’s richer than most of us will ever be yet more than likely s***ter at his job than any of us are. Life is so unfair
