Although I am not all that excited by this option, I would still rather have someone who was sh!t for Inter than some of the reported options. Rather than his record, what is his play like. Does he fit Palace? Tactical philosophy of frank de Boer - dossier written in 2015 though outsideoftheboot.com/2015/07/05/tactical-philosophy-frank-de-boer/

Does he fit Palace? Bit hard to tell, obviously being at Ajax you are going to play as a team holding the majority of possession. Can't remember how they did in champions league much. At Inter it was a complete mess - he had a huge array of talent at his disposal but managed to completely cock it up.

Does he fit Palace? Inter are a basket case having just been taken over (some kind of Chinese consortium was mentioned in the press). Things hardly changed after he left, which tells me the problems lay deeper. Tactically:

not a fan of FDB - Ajax career ended on a downward slope and his time at Inter was a disaster. His record with Ajax: four titles in a row (first time ever in eredivisie according to wiki), then second by 17 points, then second again by 2 points (missing the title on the last day). Four titles, and lost out in the title race in the final game of the season! Inter were inconsistent, but those problems existed before he arrived and continued after he left, and were as much as anything to do with problems at the club. If that's downhill, it works for me. Whether he is right for Palace is one thing, but let's not make stuff up.

Tactically: He sounds great in the article, philosophy that we would enjoy and the players we have could achieve.

Ajax should be challenging every year regardless - four titles in a row is impressive but not sure of the state of PSV/Feyen at that time. Be more interested in how they did in europe. Yes there were problems at Inter but his results were awful considering the squad he had. I'd still rather Pellegrino based largely on the job he did last year with a club punching above it's weight (should give him a good platform here)

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Frank De Boer in talks!' by kenbarr Both he and Pellegrino would be a class above most of the dross that's been linked with Palace and in that I include all the Brits supposedly in with a shout.
Cynic or realist? It's a fine line! |

I hope that this correct, I really do. My only concern is that I get the impression we conduct this process as if we're recruiting the next office manager; "thank you for your time and we'll let you know the outcome in due course" rather than headhunting for the best individual and, if we can agree terms, signing them up. Let's face it these people manage in the public eye and their records, styles of play, etc. are a matter of public record. By the time we've done the "there are a number of other candidates to see before we can make a decision" speech, the best of them have pissed off to more decisive employers. Bexley Dave As frustrating as the delay in recruiting a new manager is for everyone - myself included - I still think we should realise that we are the only Premier League club currently in the market for a new manager. Unless/until Southampton sack Puel this puts us in a very strong negotiating position with any manager who wants a piece of the Premier League. I can see why they're taking that little bit more time to obtain the best manager we can get even if it makes us HOL natives restless...... He sounds great in the article, philosophy that we would enjoy and the players we have could achieve. The tactical piece was interesting, but would he be better than Pellegrino who has been rated very highly by his peers (via the press)? I don't know. I am just pleased that most of the names we have been linked with are an actual improvement on the has-beens we normally get linked with.
