Another intellectual sacked for being honest.

Time to start a policy of not patronising institutions who sack people for such ridiculous virtue signalling reasons.
They need to know how ordinary people feel.

I thought Universities promote professors with racist views? Or is that if they are only the right views.

I don't agree with what Starkey says but he should have been allowed to clarify his views to his bosses before they pulled the trapdoor.

Why should people have to clarify their views?

Suddenly making an observation is a sackable offence?

Insane.

He's repeatedly made racist comments over the years. I'm surprised he's considered an intellectual. Sure, he knows a lot about Tudor England and produced a good few TV shows on it, but he has shown time and time again that he's completely detached from reality.

During the 2011 riots he went on some completely incoherent rant about how the whites have become the new blacks.

His equivalent in the world of football would be David Mellor.

You miss the point.

We live in a world where you can't hold the 'wrong' opinion. It doesn't matter what that opinion is.

Who is deciding what is 'wrong' or 'unacceptable' and why?

Money is usually the answer.

If you are a public figure and work for an organisation there will be some sort of contract of employment that will include a code of conduct. Bringing your employer into disrepute because of comments you make is a sackable offence for most organisations.

If I caught one of my staff stealing the takings I could not summarily sack them. There has to be an process where you can refute the allegations or it becomes unfair dismissal.

What Starkey has said is pretty disgusting but I am more concerned with the summarily justice meated out by a number of the organisations that he is connected to. There doesn't appear to have been any attempt to give him due process.

Meanwhile another Professor was promoted for what appeared to be racist comments.

What did Starkey say that was disgusting exactly? Could you enlighten me.

Well of course I am going on what the media was reporting which is why I said he should have been allowed to explain his remarks.

I think it's the tone that is offensive I just watched a progam that estimated that 9m Africans died as a result of the Atlantic slave trade. There is a legal definition of genocide so it is possible that he is correct nonetheless the tone if as reported is poor.

"He added: 'Slavery was not genocide, otherwise there wouldn't be so many damn blacks in Africa or in Britain, would there? An awful lot of them survived'."

Starkey was deliberately provocative. He didn't need to us the word 'damn'.

Having said that he is one angry bunny. Pissed off at the lockdown and now this crap.

So he was sacked for his tone?

If it wasn't another serious example of the insanity we are now experiencing, it would be laughable.

There's being honest and saying it like it is, and just being stupid. Why the damn? I know it's only one word but the rest of what he said was more or less his opinion, which does stand up.

He used the word 'damn'?
Maybe he doesn't like the absurd reimagining of history for political purposes.
Perhaps he has had enough of arseholes who want to pull down statues or use history to account for their inability to succeed.

He is not alone by any stretch.
