I think you are enjoying yourself, AND you are a bit disappointed. You are smart enough to know that Brexit wont affect burka's on your street corner too much, but xenophobia has many heads, Stirley. I think another election will induce a parliament so spectacularly hung, that it could be named Dion Dublin. Really Mainey, you and your regular displays of xenophilia.....perhaps you should be living in a more diverse state other than Maine, which is ninety percent white and hence European old boy. My thoughts on the nation's future has little to do with the EU....It's really more about a principle.....It's a battle for people like me to win....but ultimately, longer term I think the war is lost or in the balance....but that's also for the EU.

There is no mandate for a no deal exit. Whine, deny and moan all you want about that irrefutable fact, but it cannot be denied. Post a link please as to where it said on the ballot paper Remain or leave (with a deal)..

The vote was flawed utterly. I feel truly sorry for you, Stirlingsays, as for you and many likeminded folks you saw Brexit as a wonderful and magical silver bullet which would return the UK to the golden times of the 1950s, removing foreigners and muslims from your streets and paving the pavements with gold unicorns. I genuinely feel sorry for you that you got your hopes up about the 2016 vote, but it was a piece of fools gold. There are enormous and wide ranging differences on HOW we leave the EU. There MUST be a mandate from the public about HOW to leave the EU. It might have helped that in 2016 there was a remote idea in anyone's head about what brexit really meant, but they simply didnt. Why?? Its obvious that you and others want Brexit cancelled, nothing less will do....So when the GE arrives and we dont like the fact that Corbyn and McDonnel are in charge can we scream for another GE as we dont like the result......17.4 million people are having their vote IGNORED....some democracy that is... and before anyone says it, I live in France so Brexit isnt good for us but the democratic vote was leave so I have to live with the result! How would no deal affect any of us. The rhetoric is all wrong around a no-deal. It would mean we would have to sign up to WTO terms. We know what WTO terms are. We know the impact on the economy will be about £30Bn. We know May's deal will make us liable for £39Bn plus the wider impact on the economy. I was also a remainer, but see no way back, can we just get on with it and stop all this political posturing.

I probably wouldn't mind him so much if he was just a crazy activist and not the leader of the party with the biggest membership in the UK.

The referendum was entirely about internal Tory divisions. Divisions which continue to dominate British political life more than 3 years later. The majority of our MPs don't think that leaving was a wise choice but most accepted that their party had committed to respecting the result. What they don't accept is that the result meant whatever a PM says it meant. They argue, and I agree, that it's for Parliament to determine what the result meant.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Classic example of how polarisation creates wilful obfuscation irrespective of fact. And these are supposed to be intelligent, reasoned individuals...
