There is no mandate for a no deal exit. Whine, deny and moan all you want about that irrefutable fact, but it cannot be denied.

In other news, the BoE has revised their forecast of no deal GDP loss to -5.5% from -7.5%. About the same that was lost between 2007-2009. Sounds great to me. Get it done.

That won't necessarily work. Parliament can pass a law refusing to allow No Deal and insisting on an extension and Boris Johnson can then go to Brussels to ask for the extension which he will subsequently vote against. Game, set and match That would only show, by use of the veto, that the UK had control of its affairs already, and so had no need to leave the EU !!

As some people clearly have issues understanding, while the remain vote was aligned, the leave vote was split. 'Leave no matter what' ie. 'No deal' being just one of the many different expectations, and more importantly conditions of deciding to vote leave. Just because you voted for 'No deal', does not mean that everyone else who voted leave also wants no deal. Not that hard to grasp, really.

I feel truly sorry for you, Stirlingsays, as for you and many likeminded folks you saw Brexit as a wonderful and magical silver bullet which would return the UK to the golden times of the 1950s, removing foreigners and muslims from your streets and paving the pavements with gold unicorns. I genuinely feel sorry for you that you got your hopes up about the 2016 vote, but it was a piece of fools gold. The 2016 vote is not deliverable. There are enormous and wide ranging differences on HOW we leave the EU. There MUST be a mandate from the public about HOW to leave the EU. It might have helped that in 2016 there was a remote idea in anyone's head about what brexit really meant, but they simply didnt.

I assume that you are referring to European Muslims

Leaving the EU does not stop Islamic immigration. What happens in the coming years....Sure, I would support a policy like that....but I don't expect it to happen. I don't know why you seem to think I'm disappointed.....I'm quite enjoying it all. Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Sep 2019 5.22pm)

Seem to remember debating someone a few months back who didnt want to see burka's on their high street. Those burka's could be worn by British citizens.

I think you are disappointed as you said this: "Previous votes were accepted so 2016's vote should be to." I think you also know, deep down, that not only will a no deal exit never happen, but that in the coming months Brexit might be s***-canned in its entirety. That would disappoint you greatly old boy.

I know it's quite a hard concept for some leftists to get their head around.....but I'm quite an honest chap. If I tell you my Brexit vote wasn't about Muslims and that I'm enjoying myself....then that's how it is. A Corbyn or Lib Dem government would wipe the smile off my face....but I don't think that's going to happen. Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Sep 2019 5.40pm)

Edited by Stirlingsays (04 Sep 2019 5.38pm) I think you are enjoying yourself, AND you are a bit disappointed. You are smart enough to know that Brexit wont affect burka's on your street corner too much, but xenophobia has many heads, Stirley. I think another election will induce a parliament so spectacularly hung, that it could be named Dion Dublin.
