I presume that the transfer window rules state that any Premier League loans also had to be done by 11pm last night - so any chance of anything further bar from another league is done and dusted?

Hopefully 2 good signings but still not RB or striker. The RB is not urgent but a striker would have been nice. I assume that this means Mateta is staying until the summer, will he try for us knowing we want rid? So overall we have improved but as my old teachers used to say "could do better".

At the beginning of the window I thought so long as we address central midfield I'll be happy. Therefore, the fact we signed two promising young midfielders and one for the future is good business to my mind. With Wilf out we probably could have done with another winger, but if Eze or Schlupp plays on the left then Edouard/Mateta might actually get more chances. I think Richards may well end up at right back. He has the pace and athleticism for it and looks like he has positional sense and can pass. While on paper we haven't strengthened in the forward positions, having a solid base in the midfield will give players like Eze and Olise a bit more freedom, while I also wouldn't discount Doucoure, Ahamada and Lokonga adding some threat as all three seem to be box-to-box players. If we'd signed Elanga I would have given this window an A rating, but I have a good feeling and still think I'd give it a B.

It looks like we now have three CM’s who are all good athletes, skilful, look to play positively and have a goal or two in them.

We just don't have the money So whilst I'd love us to actually buy players, or even include some 'option/right to buy' clauses I think we are actually utilising the loan system well. The flip side is any player could be rubbish, turn out to be another long term injury prospect, etc. etc. and we have squandered our budget on them. Top clubs are ridiculously better financed than the entire rest therefore are due to have some real talent that they will also benefit from loaning out. I think Chelsea as one example spent more this January than the rest of Europe combined. That may not be entirely true but I don't think it's miles off if so. We may as well look to pinch the odd player here and there if only for a short term solution.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I'm most interested to see what the plan with Ahamada and Lokonga is. Was Lokonga signed as the view is that Ahamada isn't ready yet? Or will both have a role to play? Could you play a midfield 3 of Doucoure, Lokonga and Ahamada. Maybe away from home, maybe in tougher games.

Two keen young players - who have played first team football - wanting to prove themselves at Palace. PV seems to be the bait. Watching them play and him goings minutes to academy players will be interesting.
