Its a business. Sorry to say that but it is the bottom line in the Premier League these days. The fact is you get no credits at all for being loyal fans in this day and age. If you did, this wouldn't be happening. The HF are plastered all over the screens here when NBC do coverage of Palace games, and the high quality displays they do also get a lot of air time. CEO4TAG is ad man, he comes from a marketing background. The HF differentiate Palace from any other side in the league and help to attract new fans from around the world, its a fact. As I learned on the FYP pod Parish even uses their image on merchandise he sells? The HF got lucky that this spat coincides with a really poor run at home, no goals in 4 games etc. That is p&ss poor, even when you think about last year, its still p&ss poor. This allowed them to get more support than they probably would have, and they got a lot of sigs on a petition. Parish is something of a one off in terms of Premier League chairmen, but even he could not sack off the HF for the sake of not seriously upsetting a different group of fans. I doubt any other PL chairman would ultimately have reached a different decision, alas they probably would have handled it a LOT better than old Steve did and sorted it out a lot sooner, with more transparency on proceedings. Parish is as Parish does. Excellent post, its good to get an insight into the American view of Palace. my opinion of the situation for what its worth is that whether you love them or hate them, the atmosphere they create can and does win games or saves a point

Please explain how we only won 7 out of 19 home games last season with the HF in attendance?

There may not be a statistical correlation between winning matches and the HF ‘but’ the Club want and need them as has been confirmed by SP in a written statement. Put the want, need and the fantastically improved atmosphere together and any argument against them disintegrates in favour of having them.

I feel honoured that you got your phrase book out and went with “talking trash” rather than your stock “cobblers”. Although I see someone else stole your thunder with the shoe repair terminology already. I don’t think I am talking trash, repair man. It is a business above all. Parish does use HF imagery to sell the club. Plenty of genuine Palace fans signed their petition also. All true statements. Are you saying that rival fan groups went out of their way to sign the HF petition, because they think the HF are clowns? Is their Machiavellian scheme to secure the presence of the HF at Selhurst, because it weakens Palace and would allow their team to be more successful in our ground? What possible reason would people who think the HF are clowns have to sign a petition on their behalf?

What possible reason would people who think the HF are clowns have to sign a petition on their behalf? Because they take pleasure in (1) seeing a massive wedge driven into the Palace support (which was the inevitable result of its success) and (2) for them, it's hilarious that Parish actually appears to believe that 7,000 Palace supporters actually signed it. Whilst there are many at Palace (and it would appear the media) that think they HF are fantastic, there are plenty at rival clubs that think that they make us look tinpot and wish to see us continue with our tinpottery. If you're in any doubt about the genuineness of a large number of signatures on that petition, take a look at the names.
Bexley Dave Can you hear the Brighton sing? I can't hear a ******* thing! "The most arrogant, obnoxious bunch of deluded little sun tanned, loafer wearing mummy's boys I've ever had the misfortune of having to listen to" (Burnley forum) |

If you're in any doubt about the genuineness of a large number of signatures on that petition, take a look at the names. 1 Seems a bit of a stretch to me, the wedge was there as soon as the HF asked to move, but thats just my opinion. As for number 2, I really cant see that. Even if a lot of people signing that were not legit, it still means a lot of people who did sign it are in agreement. Lets face it a lot of people signing that think there is a direct link between the atmosphere and the results. That cant be proven either way, so its moot. Do rival clubs to clubs who have ultras really think they make the club look tinpot? I can think of many terms but not tinpot. I hear what you are saying on the petition, but thats just one piece of the jigsaw. Parish knows more about marketing than he may ever know about football, and according to the man's own words on FYP he does use the HF in marketing the club. Old Steve is running a business, and is also beholding to the yanks now. As I said in a previous post the HF get a LOT of attention on the US TV coverage.
